Nasty side effects of 2nd Pfizer shot:

What I sent to CDC 03-19-2021 online via their VAERs form:

Received 2nd Pfizer shot 2/25/2021. To stave off side effects, I took 2 Ibuprofen before bed. In the morning, I was more wobbly than usual, but could make it to the bathroom and return to bed. A couple of hours later I had chills, bladder was not functioning well. I could not walk or stand and, could barely maneuver in bed. Went to hospital by ambulance, where I was given 125 MG of IV Solumedrol intravenously. During my long MS "career," significantly higher doses of that anti-inflammatory drug have been my doctors' go-to, as an outpatient, going in 3-5 days. On this day I was given just 125 MG. Less than an hour later, I could walk and leave the hospital using my quad cane and the arm of a loved one. I continued to improve and am currently at the condition I was in before the 2nd vaccine injection. Walking was impaired after the first injection two weeks prior, but I was not forced to call an ambulance for help.

I reported this to the CDC, thinking it might be of help.

I think quite a few of us has been effected by the Covid shot. I have had my first one with headache, really tired, and nauseous for several days. Doing better now but next shot of Moderna is April 6th. ? Wait and see, still better to be sick πŸ€’ than dead ☠️ πŸ™πŸ€žπŸ‘πŸ˜‰πŸ€— Ken 🐾🐾🐾🐾

My 2nd moderna is April 6 also. I was lucky to only have a sore arm with the 1st. Hoping your reaction is less the 2nd time. πŸ™‚

Two different Doctors said that side effects show that it is working and should have better immunity πŸ€žπŸ™

That's what I fear, having not had much of a reaction. I am on ocrevus which also diminishes the effectiveness of the vaccine. My husband has no conditions and is on no meds, he only had a sore arm too.

My neurologist was on board with getting the vaccine, but I hadn't heard anything about my disease modifying therapy, which is Ocrevus these days, making the covid 19 vaccine less effective. I will ask my doctor about this very soon. Thanks!

What a horrible experience for you, I hope you feel much better now. I had the Pfizer first shot, but we have to wait 12 weeks for our second. There are rumours that the U.K. have run out of Pfizer and they will maybe give us all the Astra Zeneca, so we could end up with a cocktail. Not looking forward to it either way. 😊

i heard don't mix the brands???

Someone here said this one place in town was doing the Pfizer first and Astra Zenica for the second. Must be an okay thing to do!

Try to let us know how if you learn any new information. Mixing vaccines sounds iffy, you know?

Twelve weeks? Mine were spaced two weeks apart.

The idea behind it that they are vaccinating as many people as possible with one shot to help the NHS to reduce the number of people that go into hospital needing life saving equipment. Anyway they have now started doing second doses. 😊

I’ll also say I take Rebif and had my regular Rebif injection the same night as each vaccine dose.

I had both Phizer shots and only got a fever after the 2nd one. The fever and chills lasted for about 8 hours, then I was a little weak for a couple of days, and it was all over. Everyone is different, just like with our MS. I'm just glad it's all over, so I can be out and not afraid of everyone. I'm also very well supplied with all my vitamins and supplements, just to be sure.

Hello there. Are you on any disease modifying therapies like Copaxone?

4fishylady profile image
4fishyladyβ€’ in reply toDonna5658

Yes, I take Tecfidera, have for about 6 years.

I have been on DMTs since Avonex became available in the mid nineties. The number and effectiveness of available treatments is quite impressive!

WildInMontana profile image

I continue to work on getting back to taking meds and OTC supplements as directed. My PCP prescribed something to help me avoid the nausea that seeing for thinking about pills has been causing. One day at a time, right?

That sounds similar to when I got my shingles shots! Got my Pfizer one last Friday and it was good for me. No reactions!

Does your doctor recommend you getting your 2nd shot?

Donna5658 profile image
Donna5658β€’ in reply tomrsmike9

Just checking to see if people who have very little reaction are on disease modifying therapies like Copaxone?

mrsmike9 profile image
mrsmike9β€’ in reply toDonna5658

I am taking Aubagio. Copaxone gave me a bad reaction so I didn't take it long.

WildInMontana profile image
WildInMontanaβ€’ in reply tomrsmike9

MrsMike: I took Copaxone for years, but I think "injection fatigue" became too much. I now take Ocrevus via IV every 6 months.

I had both shots of Moderna. After the first shot, no reaction except for a sore arms like after a flu shot. After my second shot, I also could not use my legs but this happened after I took my Avonex. I told my husband he would have to put me in a nursing facility as I had no control of my bladder and couldn't get up to sit on the toilet. I fell 6 times and during one of those falls broke 3 ribs. I called Avonex and they told me to call my provider which I did. She said they were telling their MS patients not to get the vaccine until 2-3 days after the DMT drug. Would it have been so hard for them to call their patients with MS to tell them that? I received my second shot of Moderna on Feb. 25 and took my Avonex on the 27th as that was the day I normally took it. Seems like everyone was passing the buck. I know these are unchartered waters for us all and I hope we learn from them but honestly, being I still am having difficulty with my ribs, I'm not sure I would have taken the second dose of Moderna. I felt so much better before and haven't felt the same since. 😟πŸ˜ͺ

so glad you got treatment for it! i had a similar experience but no solumedrol. Steroids work but they have their own side effects.
