Amlodipine side effects
Hi and welcome to a very friendly ms forum. I notice that you have had some side effects from taking amlodipline. Did this affect your ms much? Blessings Jimeka 😊
Welcome to the MSAA. It is a friendly MS forum. Amlodipline is a calcium blocker to deal with problems with angina or high blood pressure. Are you taking it for heart condition or off label for something?
Typical side effects are: Drowsiness,
Fluid Retention In The Legs, Feet, Arms Or Hands,Headache, Intense Abdominal Pain Nausea, Water Retention. If you are taking the Med for cardiac reasons I would think you should call your cardiologist or internalist about the side effects.
Good morning, I take it with Lisinopril (it raises uric acid) for bp problems. Took Indapamide for years resulting in continuous gout and high uric acid; going off Indapamide, my bp was stroke range on just Lisinopril. Was put on Metapropalol (?) and ended up in hospital with suspected heart attack - it was side effects. Then put on Amlodipine almost 9 months ago (which blocks uric acid) my uric acid level cut in half and my deformed fingers have straightened almost totally out from uric acid deposits. I have had 3 severe gout attacks though in my feet and ankles. About 6 months ago I developed erythromelalgia (burning feet) and Reynauds Syndrome. Life is not worth living unable to walk, wear shoes or socks. It generally starts at 4:00 p.m. and becomes unbearable until I take Zolpidem for sleep at 10:00 p.m. Now in addition, my ankles swell and are painful. I am 77, female and assessing the lack of quality of life. I was given 1 300 mg Gabapentin last month by gp and I felt it in body in 20 minues: 2 1/2 hours later I could not walk unassisted - total lack of coordination and blinding headache. I am medicine hypersensitive and have 39 medications I almost instantly have 5-all side effects. That said, thanks for reading this far, is anyone else experiencing these Amlodipine side effects? I elevate my feet, put fan on them and use Voltaren Gel and receive minor, minor relief.
Hello, I don't have MS. Blessings returned.
Hi amlodipinedisaster I am so sorry that you are having such a hard time with your medication... Being hypersensitive can be very difficult. 😔 Please get ahold of your Dr! Let them know what is going on, and how depressed you are feeling. Have you tried soaking your feet in epsom salts? Not saying it's going to help.. but hey, you never know.

Thank you for your response. My cardiologist knows and I have appointment next week, gp knows as well. Cardiologist says I'm out of rx options. I'm hoping to stop taking it and feet issues abate?? With the covid together with my age I feel doctors just think "well, you're old" and don't care as much. Of course that could be my defeated feelings talking too. I do rationalize how very much worse others have it and try to bloom where I'm planted. Saw Amlodipine thread re hot feet on this forum not realizing it is a MS forum and joined to see the thread. What a wonderful forum, so many positive responses considering severing of health issues. It is validating to commiserate our issues while searching for answers.
Blood pressure medication can cause many issues if not treated properly. If your having issues you need to contact your doctor ASAP. He may need to adjust the dosage or add another medication to offset your affects or take you off it completely. If your retaining water it could lead to congestive heart failure. Or already be the congestive heart failure. Get ahold of your doctor.
Thank you. Appointment Wednesday. Not retaining water and my only heart issue is mitral valve prolapse and not bad. High bp is genetically predisposed; cardiologist said I likely may never have consistent "normal" bp. My side effects from 6 different meds I have taken through the years are the problem it seems. 39 medications are toxic for me. In addition, I was born with milk allergy and beef allergy has emerged in last 2 years; genetic alcohol intolerance too. Hard for me and doctors to navigate.
