Others in your family have or had serious diseases? Or even a different auto immune disease?

I am the 1st with MS. But my uncle had Parkinson's. And my grandfather had leukemia. Could it be connected?πŸ€”

As far as I know, I'm the first with MS. My mother had breast cancer, my maternal grandmother had lung cancer. No immune diseases that I am aware of.

Parkinson’s runs in my fathers side. My mothers side they have all sorts of issues. I think my mom had undiagnosed MS. But i am the first to have it officially.

Nothing in my tree as far as auto immune goes. It does bring up the thought of how rare it is to get ms. I was told by my former nuerologist, that for a white male to have PPMS I was 10% of the 10% or in other words, the majority of people to get PPMS are woman and after that African american. I never checked her facts ,but would still like to know why us! Once again I'm still searching for that common thread

No autoimmune disease in my family on either side. Dad’s side has been few heart attacks and moms side asthma. I seem to be first with MS and ♋️ ? Lucky me ☺️ Ken 🐾🐾🐾🐾

My grandmother had RA. I’m the first with MS. No, I don’t think it means anything except we both drew the short straw.

A lot of things run of both sides of my family. As far as I know I'm the second one with MS. My mom's cousin had it when she was younger. ,β™₯️🌹

I am the first to have an autoimmune disease. There is quite a bit of cancer and heart disease though. I'm thankful I have MS rather than cancer or heart disease.

There are geographic and environmental links to MS and cancer and other diseases. I have not researched the genetic connection with correlation to different diseases.

My estranged sister has MS. She doesn't communicate with me. A first cousin had MS, my age . Another cousin, aggresive ALS. Died within 6 mos.

Some cancer in family also. Just dealing with MS & trying detox & anti inflammatory diet. Good thing alone with food choices only have to worry about me.

My mother was, my sister, I and our daughters (2) are afflicted by a variety of auto immune diseases that our brother and out sons (3) don't have, so it seems there's more than random inheritance involved.

Wow goatgal I'm so sorry!πŸ™ Seems like the female gene is wonked! πŸ˜”πŸ˜ Can you trade it in? I love you!! πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

Well, there's something amiss, that's for sure, but since now there is only one female grandchild in the line, perhaps it will go no further. Anyhoo, no need to fret. We all cope in various ways, and are so much better off than many others. I've always joked that the reason I never get colds or the flu is that my immune system is always on high alert, attacking perceived invaders. That it also attacks me, is understandable collateral damage.

Understood.. and I'm done with the collateral damage cr#@! Grrrr!!! I do worry about my girls some. But, nothing I can do about it. Which suckssssssss soooooo badddddd! Can I say that? πŸ€”πŸ˜”πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€—πŸŒ

Someday, MS will become either preventable or curable. In the meantime each of us can practice empathy, understanding and support for one another and all those similarly affected, both directly and indirectly.

I am 1st with MS.

3 diabetic (grandparents on mothers side) and father. High blood pressure father and grandpa. Prostate issues grandpa. Grandma had cancer but she beat oddsπŸ‘ still is up and about thank god. Grandma and mom have osteoarthritis.

I have MS diagnosed in 2018 officially but dr says could have been several years before based on amount of lesions and my earliest recollection of symptoms 2006 being earliest πŸ˜‚πŸ€· but god is good.

My mom, dad, and 2 brothers all have autoimmune diseases (not MS). A great aunt and a first cousin suffer from MS.

I am also the first and only person with MS and don't see any tendency in the family toward other chronic conditions, but have heard many other people suggest that possibility. Robert

Grandparents, parents, siblings have been touched by 'c', and I am the only one that has 'ms'. Sadly, I believe that it is all part of life, Jesmcd2 :-D

My dad died of cancer, mom of old age (98). Brother 1 from an accident and Brother 2 from suicide. No connection to my MS.

I'm the first to have MS. Mother had migraines which I believe is autoimmune. That plus osteoarthritis and heart disease. Aren't we lucky.

Jesmcd2 profile image

Why do you think migraines are an auto immune? Ikeeptrying πŸ€” inquiring minds need to know... πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

Ikeeptrying profile image
Ikeeptryingβ€’ in reply toJesmcd2

I don't believe anyone has ever been able to find a cause for migraines. Just me but since I have RA, & MS looking for a cause for my mom's migraines brought me to think they're autoimmune too.

Jesmcd2 profile image
Jesmcd2CommunityAmbassadorβ€’ in reply toIkeeptrying

My mother suffers from migraines also. Why I asked. But she suffers from everyyyyy thingggggg! *Rolling eyes* but some are real.. I have them also. Not as often... Wonder if anyone has looked at them that way? πŸ€—πŸ’•πŸŒ

My former doctor, whom I left only because we were moving across the country, absolutely thought auto immune was hereditary. Although I'm the only one with MS, my mother had RA severely, my cousin had myastenia gravis, and I have one daughter with lupus and one with sarcoidosis. My doctor would ask me at least once a year if anyone else in the family had recently been diagnosed. It is indeed interesting to see connections.
