Crawling Worms

How could I get rid of worms crawling under my back skin? I addressed about it to my MS doctor and Dermatology doctors and did nothing about it as it is not a big enough thing. As soon as worms come alive moving I just cannot do anything, I mean anything - walking, eating, sleeping, play phone app games, peeing, etc. For now I pop antihistamine big doze hoping to drop dead asleep.

Is there anything that works to kill the worms? Am I even making any sense to any of you?

Hi LavenderMoon , firstly welcome to the forum. You really need to make your voice heard with this worm problem. Will your doctor not listen to you? I am really sorry that you have contracted this problem. Do you know how or where you contracted them? I have never heard of it before but I googled it and you need you doctor to listen to you and get effective treatment. Let us know how you get on, Blessings Jimeka 😊

Thank you for your welcoming me to the forum. Well, I meant that I get crazy shallow under the skin thick huge rope-like things moving around like eels “most annoying tingle itchy often painful feeling”. I do not think it is something I get from other people.

I am sorry that I did not clarify. I am just so used to say “I got worms under my back” to my husband.

I suppose I could go to my docs and follow up, but with COVID-19 crap I do not want to go where ill people are concentrated since I am under MS treatment that makes me immune suppressed. Besides just a thought of making appointments is making me tired already. I shall see. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

Dumb question here from me...you just mean a sensation of crawling worms, right? Not actual worms? I believe certain medications can cause that feeling, including, if I’m not mistaken, certain migraine meds. If that is what is happening, perhaps you could get your doctor to change your medicine. Either way, I’d keep pushing your doctor to listen to you. Tell him it’s driving you nuts, you can’t function, and the antihistamines are not solving the problem. I think I’d plead for him to listen. I hope you are able to get some answers and solutions. It’s no fun being miserable!

No it is not a dumb question. Yes I do not have real worms making tunnels under my skin making knots of ropes. Mostly I get that sensation on my back sometimes to shoulders. Scratching does absolutely nothing because it is not really an itch. I writhe like a snake swimming in water and flop like a fish on dry concrete because I just cannot stay still.

I do take Sumatriptan for migraine, but I do not notice correlation of worm awakening and taking medication. It may well be other medication combinations. Since it happens not any particular time of the day I cannot really say what triggers it.

I know I should follow up with doctors, but my MS doctor changed twice in 3 years and I am just not fond of making an appointment. My PCP also changed 4 times I just do not want to keep repeating myself saying same stuff all over again and again and again. I am already tired and just thinking about that makes me tired. Talking makes me tired. I hate telephone. I feel overwhelmed about making an appointment to see a doctor who may change from now till the day of appointment.

It is not ideal to be uncomfortable, and I am actually having worms right now, pretty hard to thumb-type on my phone. However I’d rather have sensation than nothing. I fear when I have no feelings on parts of my body from time to time.

I thank you for your reply.

Sumatriptan could actually be the culprit. Of course, only a doctor would know but it might be worth asking for a change to see. You sound a lot like me. I avoid making phone calls and doctors appointments as much as I can. And, yup...sometimes an irritating sensation is better than none. As the saying goes, if I woke up with no pain, I’d wonder if I’d died and gone to heaven!

Someone else who replied this post said about taking Gabapentin for pain. I used to take those m, but now I take Lyrica (generic available) since three years ago and noticeably better to me.

I’m sorry about this really annoying symptom. I’ve had a similar sensation from time to time for years. Since beginning gabapentin for leg pain and restless leg syndrome, I haven’t noticed that sensation.

It’s certainly worth asking your neurologist about.

I hope you find relief soon.

Guess what? I got a missed phone call and voice mail telling me that I need to reschedule my appo because the doc will be out of office that day.

Thank you for your comment. It actually means a lot.

Makes perfect sense to me. I just take Benadryl. Unfortunately for me, rather than make me sleepy it does the opposite however it’s a small price to pay to not feel the “creepy-crawling things” under my skin.

I remember seeing a show that talked about things that people don't hear about (medically). It actually showed a doctor removing worms from under someone's skin. (Grossed me out!) I am so sorry for you, but MAKE YOURSELF HEARD!!

Ha ha ha Yes people do get real worms under skin by either worm adults larvae eggs whatever enter from open cuts. Usually it happens in bad water places. I took pathology and infectious disease classes in University. Gross maybe, to me it was fascinating. Lectures were right before lunch time we had over 400 students in the beginning of semester but it decreased quite a bit as semester went on LOL.

I have spasm jerking left leg and constantly uncomfortable I am moving my legs when I am in my bed. I do not know MS or RLS or drug side effect. I stop wondering.
