Finally made it back.

Good morning! Glad to finally have time to visit with you all again. My husband lost his battle with ALS in April. I'm so happy he's at peace now. Most of his estate matters are taken care of. Has anyone else found the probate system to be just awful? I'm settling into a new normal with our kitties and the grandbaby visits. Just found out we have grandchild # 13 on the way! :)

Hi Cindy, sorry to hear about the loss of your husband, but as you say he is at peace now. How is your ms with all the stress that you have been under? Congratulations on no 13, when is the baby due? Blessings Jimeka 🤗

I come from a huge, close-knit family and adore my husband’s family (of 8, including extended family 😂). So very lucky!

I'm sad to hear about your husband. Knowing he is finally at peace and not suffering does give some comfort. I'm sorry, too, that you must deal with probate, which must be stressful. Do you have anyone helping you with that?

Thanks for sharing your great news about a new grandbaby! How wonderful! You'll surely enjoy an addition to the family.

Thankfully our IRA manager took the time to explain what requires probate and what doesn’t. Of course, CV19 closures weren’t helping. It’s getting better.

Thank heavens you have someone who can explain all this. My mom passed about 5 weeks ago. Thank God for her financial adviser (very trusted) who is handling everything for all of us. I would never know how to get through all of this...

Sorry to hear bout your husband.

How have you been?

Congratulations on number 13.

Probate was one of the areas of law that I practiced. I did everything under probate- wills, trust, guardianship, trust, poa’s, closing estates, etc.

I was guardian ad litim for the court which means I was the eyes and ears for the court. So if someone applied for guardianship or a change to it, I would go and interview and evaluate the people, their property, and once guardianship was approved I handed the case for 2yrs for accounting purposes to make sure there wasn’t any fraud or abuse

Yes it is awful. All parts of the legal system are awful. Greed. Laziness. Payoffs. Selfishness. No one cares about others. It’s just a job to do as little as possible. So sorry for your loss and all the problems that make it worse. Life is so complicated. 🙏🏻

The hardest part was getting the probate office to let me probate a small estate. They kept insisting I had to probate every asset we have but nearly everything we have is in both of our names with right of survivorship. They also wanted me to probate his life insurance and our bank accounts. The large estate probate starts at $2000, takes a little over a year, and requires approximately another $1500 in fees. Argh!!! It took a couple of months but they finally let me file the small estate to take care of two small bank accounts we had forgotten to add survivorship to. Frustrating but almost done.

everyone really needs a will, but if you also have a living trust you don't have to do probate

We both had/have wills. Not helpful with probate.
