Losartan for BP?

Just wanted to warn anyone taking Losartan for high blood pressure might need to check with your doctor about making a change. My understanding is that it puts you at a higher risk for pneumonia if you get Covid19. (Several TV MD's had mentioned it, so I researched and found some backup on it.) I had taken it for many years, but asked my GP about it and got it changed to another med. With low WBC and MS we don't need another count against us. A word to the wise!

Did your research find that any other angiotensin II receptor antagonists drugs were also a potential problem with COVID-19 ? Have you got any links you can post here?

They are also investigating ACE Inhibitors and ARBs (like Losartan) for their potential to reduce COVID symptoms. COVID s mechanism of action involves the ACE 2 enzymes and the HTN meds (aces and arbs) block the ACE enzymes.

There’s much uncertainty about COVID. The major cardiology groups are not recommending stopping your bp meds...but definitely check with your doc.

I have seen both reports on ARBs, but I would rather err on the side of caution right now. I am now on amlipodine and it seems to be holding my BP to the same level. This morning before meds 126/77, so I'm content with that.

No links, but research ARBs and Covid19. Thats what I did, besides hearing several doctors on TV mention a possible issues with it. Dr. Seigle was one of them on FOX News.

I came across this very long and in-depth article which needs to be read at least 4 times for it to make sense - due to the complexity of the biological processes involved. Also gives a possible insight into why some people who are apparently strong and healthy can be hit so hard by the virus.

(and there's not a single mention of heavy metals or amalgam fillings in this article....)
