I just learned that American Airlines will allow me to rebook my ticket anytime within a year of the original reservation. They are not charging a rebooking fee, though any fare difference will be due when I rebook. I did not need proof of age or autoimmune disease. I hope everyone else who decides to cancel air travel during the virus outbreak will be as fortunate as I.

Non refundable tickets are more expensive; I didn't buy one.
