New Job

I just started a new job. Tomorrow will be my second day and I am already exhausted from getting up at 4am. I figured since I am feeling better after my year of hell I had better strike while the iron is hot. It is not a overly physical job and it's only a 6 1/2 hour shift but it wipes me out lol. I spend the majority of my time helping disabled individuals function in the work place.

It's more mental stress than anything and this particular client is only a 6 month contract so if I decide after 6 months that this is too much for me, nobody is put out.

I can’t imagine 4am, but I know it won’t take all 6 months for your body to adjust.

Best to you on the new job. Rest as much as you can when you are "off duty."

Congrats on the new job! It's takes a special person to do that kind of work. Please take care of yourself too!

Good for you! The 4 a.m. thing....warning, it will grow on you! But, it comes with a price. After years and years of it, I can no longer sleep past 4:30 a.m.! Usually, right around 4:28 a.m., I wake to check the clock.... BUT, I can set the alarm for 3:30 a.m. and I'm up in a flash. Good at 2 a.m. as well. But, by 9 p.m., yeah I'm comatose. Toothpicks made out of titanium can't keep my eyes open. It's what you get used to. You will. Just realize you can no longer do the nite life thing anymore. Though I had friends who could switch from day shift to night shift on command. In the same week, or for parts of it every week. How? That I never understood. But given time, one can adjust to any shift. But again, too long at it, and it will stick, whether you want it to or not!

Congrats! The shift change will take some getting used to, hopefully you can adjust after a bit and not every day you will be wore out. Keep us updated on how the job is going and how you are doing :)

Congratulations! You will get used to getting up at 4 am, but you have to be asleep by 8 pm. Take melatonin if you have to, wear a sleep mask.

My husband has to get up at 4 as well. I can't imagine me doing this but he did get adjusted to it. He comes home and takes a nap then goes to bed a touch before 9. Find a pattern that works for you! Good luck!
