A little somewhat practical advice for those the newly diagnosed (newbies) and those who may have forgotten. Stretch.
Relax it really is okay, cry your tears cuddle your loved ones. Buy a dog and cuddle him\her as well. I love dogs and they like to be held. Crying is not a bad thing, I have done it recently and I have had ms twenty plus years. Learn to accept things about yourself, mostly that things do not go the way “YOU” planned. This is Relapsing Remitting ms (RRms) it will put “YOU” through things that “YOU” never expected and perhaps never thought “YOU” would be able to handle. My friend, “YOU” can and “YOU” will. This is a doable disease. I have lived twenty plus years with it. She who must be obeyed drives and has lived with it twenty three plus years. We both expect another twenty years so that is forty plus years with our companion. A long time, the better part of a lifetime. So relax, wipe away your tears. it is a long path that we have too travel. It is possible to walk this path, to travel through your ms life well, and happy.
Do not despair, this is a vary doable disease today. Do nothing and “YOU” will move to disability quickly. Look at how people were twenty and thirty years ago with no medicine. Do nothing and that may well be your fate. Take a Disease Modifying Therapy(DMT) and the future can be yours. I will always suggest taking the strongest DMT that “YOU? can handle. Do not be afraid of side effects. Death is an exception, avoid that it kinda ruins your day. Flu-like symptoms “YOU” can cope with. Most other things can be coped with. There is really not much to be afraid of.
Expect the unexpected, prepare yourself for everything that “YOU” can, and when something does not work, roll with the punches, accept what has happened to “YOU” and continue to make the beat of your life. Give your children and others a good example. Let your strength and wisdom flow through you to others by osmosis and allow yourself to be a good example. This is a good goal and can give “YOU” a sense of worth and that is really important. Do things that help “YOU” find value in yourself. Do things that make “YOU” feel worthwhile. DMT, exercise, learning and diet are all very important, but “YOU” must find something that makes “YOU” feel worthwhile and of value, accept that it may take many years, it may change many times, just keep learning and changing as “YOU” need or want to. “YOU” are aiming to make your lifetime one of value and one that “YOU” can be proud to have lived.
I intend on being on my death bed thinking that I touched one person in a good way and that will be enough, a life well lived the calamities that occurred were worthwhile. Perhaps that is a good purpose for “YOU” as well.
