Urinary tract infections
I have read that one way to prevent UTIs is to drink a lot. Make sure you drink 64 oz or more per day.
I am on ocrevus and thought i had a UTI. Went to urgent care and did a sample. Results were no UTI. I still think i do. Good luck
I had the same thing happen. Very painful but no infection. This happened the week I was supposed to get my infusion.
I feel like I did to and the urine sample came back negative 👎
I did do some research on UTI's and found in a couple of places where they said it's possible to have an irritated bladder that will cause pain without infection. Causes for irritation can be from food especially citrus or medications. My doctor also confirmed that when I went in.
I have been on Ocrevus for 3 years without any UTIs. I had one about 4 years ago but none since. As suggested drinking lots of water helps and also cranberry juice. If you are sexually active you should urinate after intercourse to wash away any bacteria from the opening of your urinary tract. Over the counter AZO urinary pain relief can help with urinary tract pain but I would rule out a UTI too.
Good luck!
Well I went to my primary care doctor and my urinalysis came back negative for a uti she said the pain I was feeling is from hormones depletion and gave me a script for my problem unrelated to OCREVUS. I’m just afraid because I’ve read stories from people that said there body couldn’t fight off there infection because of there immunity being compromised.
The cause could be Neurogenic Bladder or CES-R which is relatively common and rarely diagnosed because it is difficult to prove. I see you are taking Ocrevus which is used to treat nerve conditions and I am really not sure what a monoclonal antibody is ...
Repeat UTIs are often caused by urine retention, meaning you don't always fully empty your bladder. The bladder turns into a bacterial fermentation tank which can trigger UTIs. Retention can be caused by either a blockage or damage to Cauda Equina Nerves that control the foot, bladder and bowel muscles. Apparently, this type of problem is more common in women than men.
Antibiotics I believe can subtly make these problems worse. I think this is true of Nitrofurantoin and Ciprofloxacin and possibly other antibiotics. Both are believed tocause neuropathic problems.
I think what can happen is if your bladder or bowel get too large or too hard, they can press on Cauda Equina nerves running down the spine. Drinking a lot could make the problem worse ....
I have found losing a bit of weight - or soft orthotics does help.
If you have weakness or pain in the foot or bowel as well, the problem is likely to be along the lines I suggest.
On white cells, you may find using Multistix interesting. You may well find in the early stages of a UTI, traces of red blood cells show and nitrite which indicates an infection, then the white cell level shoots up.
I wasa advised to take antibiotics as a prophylacytic (Macrobid). It seemed to make all my problems worse and since I stopped taking it six months ago, not a single UTI.
I remember reading that there was an increased incidence of UTI after infusion, but that was about a year ago so I forget where...maybe most commonly reported adverse reactions listed in the drug info.
I’m glad yours was negative. I wouldn’t dally on getting checked if I had symptoms while on Ocrevus.
