It's one of the best vitamins you can take. It helps your hair and nails grow.

Anyone take it besides me?

I never heard that. How is it different from Biotin?

It's totally different and has nothing at all to do with Biotin. Biotin is Vit B7 and that's the vitamin that is in most of the OTC supplements for hair/skin/nails contain as one of their ingredients.

Good to know. After reading your post I asked my mother if she heard about vit e and she said the person who is helping her grow her hair back told her about it.

She went on vacation and she wore a phony pony and it pulled her hair out, she had a big bald spot in the back of hair

I may try it I went to get my ends trimmed and the person cut a plug of hair out in the back of my hair and hid it from me by telling me I’ll pull your hair up. When I got home I was so pissed I didn’t know what to do.

The lesson I learned was I should have waited for the person who normally did my hair but I was inpatient and that’s what I got

I know exactly how you feel. Once you find someone who knows how to do your hair you want to stay with them. Sometimes it's hard to make sure you are always have them doing your hair. I'm glad your mom knows about the vitamin E.

In about the 1970s or thereabouts there was a "thing" about taking Vit E and Vit C prolonging your life and reducing heart disease and even possibly preventing cancers - these vitamins were seen as a wonder supplement. However, some retrospective analyses found that the "all cause" death rate was higher amongst those supplementing with high doses of Vit E and C, and others found that there was no correlation but no benefits either. The claims of reduced cancer risks from supplementing were also not proven. None of the retrospective analyses found that there was a proven benefit in taking Vit E unless there was a diagnosed deficiency or other valid medical reason to supplement.

Here's an "easy read" article about a Cochrane review of studies which involved a total of some 230,000 people (complete with clickbait headline!)

theguardian.com/science/200...

Here's another "easy read" - with Harvard "sitting on the fence"

hsph.harvard.edu/nutritions...

This study concluded that "For the populations reviewed here, supplementation with vitamin E appears neither beneficial nor harmful in terms of mortality. Based on the information available, supplementation with vitamin E as alpha-tocopherol cannot be endorsed as a means of reducing mortality for the specified populations. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, vitamin E supplementation should not be recommended as a means of improving longevity."

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

This study (also with clickbait headline) concluded that "Vitamin E supplementation at doses above 400 IU/d is associated with a small increase in all-cause mortality"

and that

"Patients taking high doses of vitamin E should be counseled to discontinue or reduce their medication."

Thank you Frances_B

We used to give vit E for people with Alzheimer’s but even that fell out of favor. Vit E is one of the fat soluble vitamins, so you do need to worry about toxicity (I don’t know symptoms or levels of toxicity but like fish oil and ginkgo it can increase bleeding—so also be aware of that). The othe fat soluble vitamins are D, A, and K

Here you go - this article covers most of the vitamins although it's a rather light on for information about what levels of each would be considered a bit too high or heading towards toxic levels

Hey Leslie, I take biotin for that. I was having a terrible hair loss and got some recommendations to take biotin. It is also known as vitamin B7 or H.

i take these and it has been great. Stopped my hair from falling and also improves skin quality and nails.
