Feeling so ill after IV steroids.

Hi all,

I had 3 days of iv steroids last week finished on Thursday. I feel absolutely awful. Like I have a really bad flu. Pains everywhere, bone pain, weak and a headache with worsened tinnitus. I never felt like this on previous iv or after. Getting worse by the day. A urine sample was done beforehand to check for infection and that was clear so I just don't know what is going on. Has anyone else experienced this?

The only time I felt like that was the second treatment of Ocrevus but that went away the next day. Did you call your neurologist on how your feeling. I hope you feel better soon.

I didn't call anyone. I was thinking maybe an viral infection and the steroids just escalated it. My neurologist doesn't sit every day. Will give it another couple of days ..Maybe. x

Just remember there is a holiday he might be going away. You don’t want to have to wait till Monday just call and ask what is going on??

You could have picked a viral infection up, the steroids don’t work on viruses so I would ring your doc and see what they have to say. Hope you get to feeling better soon, blessings Jimeka 🦋

I agree with all who have encouraged you to call your doctor. Please feel better quickly, and let us know how you're doing.

I’ve only had the 100mg with Ocrevus and it was miserable. Thankfully it doesn’t last long.

It weakens your immune system, so if you’ve been exposed to any viruses in the past two weeks, that could be your issue now.

Hope you feel better. You really need to call the doctor to find out what's going on. Some people have adverse reactions to steroids. My neurologist asked me if I had ever had any bad reactions to them when he mentioned possibly using them on me for the choking sensation I've been having. I've never been on them so I don't know how I will react.

I would call the doctor to let them know of the problems you are having. They may have a solution that can help. That said it also happened to me the last time I had a 3 day steroid infusion. I have had several before & never had that kind of reaction to it. It was like they changed the formula or something but it wasn't the same. Now that I am on Ocrevus, the steroid they give before the Ocrevus has affected me the same way.

Yes, nearly 20 years down the MS road and I do not do the iv steroids thing any more. I haven't since the second time years ago because I experience the same thing as you.

Won't be doing them again that's for sure.

I had 5 days steriods, felt horrible. The next week. After that week, I am now much better, I took steriods b/c of excessive numbness, which is now gone.

Goodness...I hate this for you. Definitely call Dr or Primary Care. I had steroids this summer and felt awful too. I lost a ton of weight from lack of appetite & pain..I was down to 110...not good. I had steroids in the past and never experienced being that sick. It wasn't until I went on pain meds and started my new dmt that I felt better. Ive mentioned this before in other posts but I drank Gatorade to help too. It gives the electrolytes your body needs. Maybe a combination of things are going on ...as we all know, MS can be so tricky and one cannot gauge how its going to attack or react when we try and go head to head with this beast. Just my experience...prayers for a speedy recovery. Peace and smilies ya'll :)

Thank you. I left a message with my MS nurse she is only available 3 days a week and sure you would rarely be able to get in contact with the doctor.. medical is way behind over here in Ireland.
