MS hot flashes and an Intolerance to the cold

How is everyone dealing with hot flashes now that it’s cold out?

I just started to experiencing extreme hot flashes, I am sweating as if it was 100 degrees outside I’m opening my coat to cool off but I continue to sweat.

My lower body from the waist down is freezing to death.

I talked to my dr about this she and she told me to take ques from those around me.

Before MS I was always cold even in 100 degree weather now the top half is always hot and the bottom is freezing

Any suggestions?

Have you experienced this?

I haven't had the hot flashes yet. I hadn't heard of them in relation to MS. I thought they only happened with menopause. I am however a victim of frostbite and pneumonia. So at relatively high temperatures for everyone else I'm comfortable. At temperatures that everyone else is comfortable I'm freezing. Many a battle has been waged at work over the setting on the a/c thermostat for the office. I was in and still work for the military which brings a whole new meaning to the word "battle". 😁😂😁 Fingers have been threatened with removal if caught touching the thermostat! 0 does not mean "OFF"!!! GRRRRRR!!!

The only suggestion i have is to keep a sweater and blanket handy to help keep you warm when you're too cold. Remove layers if you're too hot or use a cooling vest or neck wrap to help keep you cool.

Well I can’t walk around in streets with blankets but I do wear my long johns. My upper body I have on a lite jacket but that is too hot as well.

As for menopause no even close to going through it.

MS dr said hot flashes is more common than one may think.

I didn’t experience any hot flashes this summer now that winter is here it another story.

This happens to me every spring and fall when the weather does it’s big change 😖. It always takes a week or two and then I adjust 😉. Seems that my weird body has to adjust and I to would be happy to know of something to stop this. Not new for me has been going on now for twenty three years 😖. 👍🙏🐾. Ken

It’s a constantly changing thing for me, too. Maybe menopausal hot flashes were training for these weird reactions to temperature! It often seems as though I’m not necessarily reacting to temperature changes, but I can feel very warm or cold just sitting and minding my own business.

I have noticed for me it has to do with barometer changes also. Crazy 😜. 🐾 Ken

I was wondering about that too? 🦋

I’m nowhere close to being menopausal.

I think I'm perimenopause and my body is always up and down, especially at night. Have to have my fan on high and pointing right at me. Going to talk to my Neuro about this next Friday when I see him.

Have been wearing a light jacket but it doesn’t help. For my legs I do have on my long johns

When temp goes below 65 outside I’m cold inside or outside. Especially feet but not exclusively. Sitting here now with quilt and thick insulated socks and still cold. That’s with thermostat on 70.

I am 78 now but did experience hot flashes for a couple of years, did not seem to affect my MS (PP) my husband always asked are you power surging? I was fortunate for they never woke me up but did get them before I had fallen asleep

There are awful rjoneslaw and I wish there was an answer to. Only thing I can do is stand at the door till it passes. But like the others, it's the change in the 2seasons. Until it settles down, I'm screwed!😔🤣🤣 🤗💕

I too have problems when the weather changes.. My body does not like sudden temperature change in the weather.. even when it gets cooler, I feel too hot with a jacket on then have trouble walking.. People think I’m nuts when they have zipped jackets and freezing and I’m wearing just a light fleece jacket unzipped with the sleeves pulled up. I don’t have an answer other than dress in layers so you can take off or put on as needed! If you find an answer let all us hot flashing MS mamas know!!!!😜. Good luck!

There is a belief that menopause hits around 50 + years BULL!! I was 36 when I started having problems & that was before MS. I went through so many weird things I would sweat like no tomorrow then I would freeze. So I feel for you I would just bundle up which ever part was cold & have as little as possible on the hot part. YES I felt like an idiot it didn't happen all the time but it did enough to make things miserable at times. off & on for about 10 years but we made it & so will you.

This just started for me and I'm thinking menopause, but now not so sure. I too hate when there is a Barometric change, this has been what I've been blaming as well. Who knows! Hang in there
