Tuesday I had such a horrible headache that I spend a majority of the day in bed. Wednesday I woke up with a horrible low back pain into the area below my butt and down my right leg. Saw my chiropractor on Friday which helped with the back pain but not the other pain. Finally couldn't stand it on Sunday and went to the ER. They gave me a steroid shot and another pain shot which helped the pain under the butt area but when walking more than a short distance or standing I still have the pain in my right leg. My blood pressure was really high in the ER so they did an EKG which didn't show anything. Also did an ultrasound on my right leg to rule out a blood clot, which I have a history of. No blood clot. Told to take 3 ibroprofrins 3 times a day with food and follow up with my doctor. Have an appointment at 9am tomorrow. Hopefully he can help me cause I can't do anything right now cause it hurts except to sit or laydown.

bxrmom , how sorry I am that you are in such pain. I hope and pray that you get results from the medications and can somehow prevent this from happening again.
That sounds really painful! And I would assume the high blood pressure was a result of that pain--I've been told extreme pain can elevate your bp. But it sounds like the ER was good at checking everything. I hope your doc can get to the root of the problem and you get some relief...soon! Sending a hug 💞

I know the feeling. I ruptured my L5-S1 extruding into S1 nerve root. I had nerve block epideral steroid injection on Aug 23rd. I saw Dr last week and am being referred for nuerosurgery disectomy. I have thought forever that the weakness numbness pain sciatica was all MS but since I did get more feeling back than I expected and Dr concerned about weakness loss of strength recommend in surgery since she sees so many patients with Ms or other diseases have everything get blamed on disease when there might be a chance to actually fix something before it's too late.
UPDATE: Saw my family doctor today for the pain from sciatica and he gave me a heavy duty steroid that he said would take 3-5 days to be fully effective. Someone told me that when they had one, it was the next day they had relief so I am hoping that is the case for me as well. My doctor also told gave me a 5mg Noro rx that I can take twice a day for the pain. He also said that I can take ibuprofen as well or as I have found out, my pamprin works better...funny how that works lol I'm hoping that I get some relief sooner than later.
Hope the steroids help and you feel better asap, bxrmom . So is there a plan to determining be the cause or just treat the immediate pain? Take care, those steroids give you a false sense of 'ok.' 💞
WAshingtongirl right now I think it is to treat the immediate pain. My Dr asked when the last time I had a back MRI and told him it was 6 months ago for my MS so he was going to have his nurse get the report. I go back next week for a recheck so hopefully will have more info. Just can't think of anything that I did that would have caused this though I have had back problems for years. Jus never like this. I do see my chiro for regular appointment on Thursday morning so hopefully that will help as well.
WAshingtongirl Unfortunately the pain is still there. I do have my regular appointment with my chiropractor today so hopefully he can help me get some relief. Fingers crossed!!
Guess I was thinking of the more powerful solumedrol. What's your chiropractor think? Hope between your docs and the steroids you begin to feel better and heal. Don't overdo once the steroids kick in and mask the pain! 💞
WAshingtongirl Thanks for checking on me. They gave me a shot of solumederal in my hip because it is supposed to act faster according to the nurse that gave it me. My chiropractor told me to keep drinking water, keep stretching, and gave me an exercise to do with a tennis ball - you stand against the wall and put the tennis ball between your hip and the wall and roll back and forth. Talk about pain when you do that, omg!! I switched up that exercise to rolling the tennis ball between my hand and the part that hurts....hip and outside of leg. Today is day 3 after steroid injection in doctor's office and it is a little better today so hopefully with the stretches and exercises this will be over soon. My recheck is Tuesday morning.
Yikes! I didn't know about that tennis ball exercise for sciatica. Sounds like torture. Mine has been mild when I've had it. Nothing like what you're going through. Hope it gets better day by day. Sending a hug. 💕
WAshingtongirl Yes, that exercise is torture. Today is a little better than it has been, so maybe that shot my dr gave me is actually starting to work...time will tell.
kdali I never even thought about getting a massage for mine. Depending on how I'm feeling next week and what my Dr says I will look into getting one. Luckily my chiro has massage therapists in his office.
I'm going to call tomorrow to see if there is an opening I can get into. I have also talked to a couple of friends that have sciatica issues - one takes steroid pills and the other had to have a shot in her lower back.
6092177588 No, that was not MS related. I have a bulging disk in my lower back and I think somehow when I was sleeping my sciatica got pinched. Luckily the pain has subsided since November and I didn't require injections or surgery.
Please get your films and get to an orthopedic surgeon. I thought years of pain down my legs was sciatica and it wasn’t. After a couple of visits to a neuro chiropractor that actually made the pain worse, she sent me in the right direction. It was nerves being closed in by my spine. Spinal fusion surgery was done and the relief was amazing.
This was 2 years ago that I had the awful pain. The pain was caused from my sciatica being pinched. I did finally see a surgeon but by the time I was able to get into see him, the pain had been gone. He said if the pain ever comes back to call his office. I hope to NEVER have that pain again.
I'm so sorry you're in so much pain. As someone who also suffers from sciatica, my physical therapist gave me a tennis ball and taught me a little thing that does give arelief for a little while--Back up to a wall, put the tennis ball between the wall and the spot on your back right side just above your butt (where your sciatic nerve starts). And pressing the ball into the wall, do a little wiggle. You'll feel that ball kind of messaging that spot. And I found that gave me relief for hours.
Thanks CrazyCatWom My Chiro told me about an excercise like that, it hurt so bad when I tried it. It was 2 years ago that I had the pain. Luckily it has gone away and I have been doing good with it. Still not sure what caused the sudden pain to come on as I woke up with it and it last for like 3 months until it was completely gone.
