Just curious, how do you know if a sinus infection and not a sinus viral cold? I too had a very bad I collect a cold in my sinuses this month. It was the first one that I had in three years. Three years ago at knock out my sense of smell and taste which took me almost 3 years to kind of recover from. I didn't call the doctor because I never been prone to sinus infections and most of the time it's a viral thing and taking antibiotics would not have made a difference. I wonder if the antibiotics have helped you so far and I hope they did because I know how miserable it is to have your sinuses are blocked. I'm starting to think that although the virus knock out my taste and smell for so Long that there could be some cranial intervention caused by my MS. I can smell things now and sort of taste things now but there's a disconnect between what I'm tasting and what I really think I'm tasting. It's hard to explain but once I start eating I can't know for sure if I am really tasting what I eat we're not really tasting it at all.!
Hi itasara , sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I hope your feeling better! And m really sorry about the taste and smell situation. That has to be extremely frustrating for you. I hope it continues to get better for you.
As far as the sinus infection goes? I have no idea, how he decided that? I had just gone in for a scheduled appt. For a follow-up on the Modafinil. I just mentioned my sinuses to him, and he did a quick exam. In all honesty lts been close to 4-5 yrs since l have been on any antibiotic. So we decided that 1round wouldn't hurt. HA was l wrong! Now l remember why l don't take them๐ But they did helpโบ
If your still having a problem go back in to see your PCP or even your Neuro, and see what they say? Maybe a round of antibiotics is what you need.
Hi, and thanks for your reply. I'm over the cold. I'm already on an antibiotic for this rare skin rash I have. It isn't the same one probably a doc would use for a sinus cold, but I doubt I would want to take two antibiotics at the same time! The taste issue really sucked. For all this time I had absolutely no taste recognition or smell. But I did have tongue tastes like sweet, sour, salty, bitter. So I used a lot of salt!! The fact that I am tasting and smelling better makes me think it was viral which when nerves repair it takes a LONG time. I joined this yahoo group called anosmia and many people there attribute their lack of cold to a cold virus. But I ? if some of this has to do with neurological problems caused by MS. The fact that even though I can smell a little and even taste a little but don't always recognize the exact taste makes me wonder how much is neurological.
itasara lm so glad your over your cold!! It's brutal this year! And if l remember correctly your in the northern NY area? Whereas lm down state from you and everyone is getting it!
Have you asked your Neuro about it? I now my tastes have changed, and has actually put me in tears a few times. Just because my boyfriend would make something that l love, and it's to spicy for me. There are a few people on here that have the same taste issue. So who knows?
I have an appointment next month with my Neurologists, lm going to ask him about it, and see what he says.
