Hi everyone. I hope your day is going well for you. I started using weighted spoons and forks majy months ago and find them easier to use rather than the regular ones? As we all well know, tremors can really put a damper on eating smoothly. Food can easily end up across the room. I find using the weighted silverware easier and am wondering if you do as well.
Weighted silverware. : Hi everyone. I... - My MSAA Community

apart from Amazon where might u find these? Royce
Interesting, positiveness. A year ago, I bought a new set of silverware. After 30+ years of marriage, our old sets were missing so many pieces we couldn't have a complete set for more than 6 people. So when we started looking at the display, I told Hubby that I needed to look at lighter weight pieces, for those days when had hand weakness. I held several different styles, but kept returning to a set that was heavier. It just felt more comfortable as well as more manageable.
I'm glad I went with the larger, heavier set. It's comfortable in my hand and easy to hold even when I'm tired.
I have been using weighted silverware for the past several years and don't know what I would do without them! Each piece weighs between 7 and 8 ozs. and the set I have looks like regular silver from a distance. I stick it in a zip-loc baggie and take them if I go out to eat. I googled them and ended up getting them on Amazon. For any of you with tremors they are a wonderful tool. If your tremors ever reach the point where the weighted silver doesn't help enough there are some products produced by LIFTWARE. These are electronic, and cost quite a bit more than the weighted silver, but if that is the only way you can eat I guess it may be worth it.
Positiveness I have never heard of that. I'm not there yet but one day I probably will join the ranks of weighted silverware users. What I have a challenge with is cutting up the steak. If they're tender as butter i can cuts them up. Otherwise my husband usually the one who cuts my steak up for me. If he doesn't he's had a near-miss or two where the entire stick almost flips across the table and whines up in his lap. Oops! So are the hazards of putting a knife in the hands of someone with MS! Haha, it's better to laugh then to cry. Fancy1959
positiveness l should get out the good silverware and use that. It's heavier than our day to day stuff. At least give give it try anyway to see if works for me

Hi positiveness,
Thanks for the heads up - I wasn't aware of these. I have to confess my arm muscles can get really tired when eating unless I do the frowned upon resting elbows on table ! I hauled out the cheaper, lightweight cutlery for me. More recently, since incredible vibrating neck stem/arm tremor has become more pronounced and after a few stabs to the mouth with misdirected fork prongs, I have taken to eating mostly with a big spoon at home - retains the food and is blunt edged ! : ) x
That's sad angelite. This silverware tends to help me be more accurate, unless the piece I am trying to get is too small.
Try some heavier silverware and see what happens. Perhaps your arm gets tired from trying to control your arms or hands so much and something heavier would help. It is worth a try! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Unfortunately, the muscles fatigue from having to hold my arms up, as well as any movement involved. If I can lean my elbows it supports and helps a lot. All these things that we used to take for granted, we just have to find a new way around ! I will try the heavier cutlery again for curiosity : ) x
