I made one for a grandson who had frequent nightmares. The extra weight made him feel more secure somehow.

What would you be using it for?

I’ve wondered about these too to help with anxiety at night time. I’m afraid it would be too hot?

They are so expensive I just hate to buy one and hate it

I got a small one for my daughter for anxiety and she loves it. But even the small one's are costly. Good luck.

If you sew, or if you know someone that does, they aren't hard to make. I found the beads at a craft store - not too expensive - and two pieces of fabric about the size of a lap quilt. I measured the fabric after sewing them together and sewed evenly spaced columns vertically. Then fill each column with some beads, sew horizontally to make a grid, adding more beads and repeat. You'll end up with a grid of pockets. The trick is not to make it too heavy.

The amount of the beads is loosely based on the weight of the user, taking into consideration the needs of each individual. The general formula is to use about 10% of the user's body weight, which is spread evenly among the pockets of the blanket. The beads are machine washable, though I would probably dry the blankets flat. The beads are nice because they are small, but not small enough to eventually work themselves through the fabric weave.

If you need one, PM me.

My cousin made something similar. But she used sand rather than beads in the pockets. The sand packets were removable so the blanket could be washed without overloading the machine with the weight of wet sand. She used the blanket to keep her from moving constantly while sleeping. Until she started using the weighted blanket she would often fall out of the bed.
