Don't know what to do

Just saw neuro surgeon who as told me I need another op ,c3. As now got narrowing and it's close to my spinal cord , it needs to be fused like ,c,4c5 which didn't help , i was told I could end up in a wheelchair I don't know what I should do yet as there is no guarantees it will work because I have to many symptoms already.

Not what you wanted to hear. It’s a very difficult position to be in. Possibly a second opinion might help?

If you don’t want that then I would go for the op as ending up in a wheelchair is really not what you want. I feel for you.

You are in a tough situation similar to me. I have been diagnosed since July. I saw a neurosurgeon who advised surgery adding that I might be ok with conservative therapy. I got a second opinion, following his examination the advice was I was borderline needing surgery but he was more concerned about the symptoms in my legs. He said he would need to monitor me for two years to gauge the rate of degeneration. My decision is to have surgery because of my age. I'm 58 and surgery gets less successful in older patients. In two years it is highly likely further degeneration will happen so I don't see the point in waiting.

Sorry for replying with my story but I felt you needed to know that I appreciate the dilemma you face. A wheelchair has not been mentioned in my case but after reading your story I would say the right choice would be have the surgery and pray it helps. If it doesn't and you do end up in a wheelchair, in your mind you will know you did what you could, when you could.

Hi there, decided to go for operation , I have already had a operation to fuse c 4 c5 in 2013 I didn't get any benefit but it was 20 yrs to late as I was misdiagnosed im 58 , like yourself so I have nothing to lose but might stop things getting worse , as cervical myelopathy is disease that doesn't go away.
