My ANA is changing me.

I’m 46 years old in 2022. In 2014, I was once a walker and kayaker. It all started one day after kayaking that I noticed my arm pits getting whiter. The rest of my body was tan from being outside. I blew it off as a weird coincidence. Gradually the rest of my body got lighter where I had scars, and then my hands were not darkening. I’m naturally light skinned, so only I noticed at the beginning. I went to my doctor who said Vitiligo. My blood tests showed high ANA attacking my melanin. Now my ANA seems to be removing my hair as my arms and legs are now hairless and my hairline has a small light spot showing through. I have a feeling this is just the beginning as my weight increased from 160 to 258, and my body is slowly falling apart.

Sorry to hear that. Did your doctor not prescribe medication to control it? You need immunosuppression and /or chloroquine and unfortunately you need to shield.

I was prescribed Plaquenil for a long time, but then was taken off of it. In a month’s time, my hair on my arms and legs went away. (My liver, spleen, and pancreas are enlarged.) My skin though is really dry, almost chalky looking. On the plus side, I don’t have eczema anymore and I don’t have to shave. Only vitiligo, but since I’m not in the sun much, it’s not as noticeable.
