What are these dents in my thumbs?

Does anyone know what these dents in my thumbs are? They appeared a few days ago and are identical on both thumbs. They do not hurt and are not discoloured but I can’t find a similar picture anywhere online. They are only on my thumbs, a few mm long and vertical from my cuticle stretching up to my nail. I have attached a picture.

Dear Charley, from your very clear photo it looks as if you may have an infection around the cuticle. I suggest you send the photo to your GP and see if they offer you an appointment. I did that as I thought my ankles were swollen, took a photo and e-mailed to surgery, and my GP rang me the next morning with an appointment. Much more successful system than phoning the gatekeeping receptionists to get an appt!
