Understanding OCD is crucial for us because it helps reduce stigma and misconceptions surrounding the condition. Many people mistakenly think OCD is just about cleanliness or being excessively organized. Recognizing OCD symptoms early leads to better support and treatment for those affected.

OCD is often misunderstood as a personality quirk or even something useful. Many people don’t know of or recognize the symptoms. They often don’t understand how disabling the condition can be or that people have taken their own lives because of it. Awareness of what OCD is and that it can be effectively treated is growing but we have much more work to do in this area. No matter how long a person has had unmanaged OCD or how severe it is, it can be effectively treated. There are many, many stories of people who are living well in recovery and some who have go on to have freedom from OCD.
