Not just ocd

I made a post a little bit ago about having other symptoms I think may be ocd, and now I've looked into it more I'm still not sure- I was wondering if anyone had any tips to bring it up with a therapist or if they themselves could have a look at the symptoms with me and help think of anything that might be worth having a small look into to discuss with a proffesional later?

Hi, on Reddit people didn't believe. I hope you do. I am 52 and my son got ocd, intrusive thoughts symptoms caused by mold in our home. I have read so much about it. There is a group on Facebook with thousands of members . Look it up and see of you recognize things. I keep my son far away from psychic help. They don't know nothing! The only thing they want is to give you a label and heavy medication.

Hi! What's the name of the facebook group. My son has ocd and I have been wondering if mold exposure could have been making things worse.

Thank you for your reply! I looked into it when you commented on my other post, however I do not think my symptoms are originating or getting worse from this- your message is very kind though, and much appreciated! x

You are welcome. Mold can be also a trigger for Histamin intolerance. Look at this:

Are you experiencing neuroinflammation? It's a fancy word for inflammation that starts in the gut and immune system and travels up the vagus nerve, into the brain stem. Neuroinflammation is connected to histamines because histamines are an inflammatory neurotransmitter! This is why people with histamine and mast cell issues often go so long without being diagnosed- they are accused of psychosomatic disorders because of their erratic mental health symptoms. But this is actually a part of the underlying condition!

Our body is not divided up into separate parts. When something becomes imbalanced in one area, that will inevitably spread to the rest of the body. When histamines get into the brain, you feel anxiety, panic, dread, experience intrusive negative thoughts, impulsive and even delusional ideas, or become incredibly foggy, fatigued, and depressed. All of these symptoms are the effect of histamine and mast cell activation in the brain and nervous system.

Well one compulsion you have is reassurance and double checking. I used to have that as well and I have had to learn not to ask for reassurance. Once you start a compulsion, it can be hard to stop but now I been validating myself and thinking for myself I'm not as bad. I'm still waiting on therapy, that's how long it takes in Britain on NHS.

Thank you!!! NHS therapy takes agesss especially CAHMS lol I feel your pain, but it's nice to be able to relate to people thank you. I will try to start on the reassurance thing I did not think of myself having it before, but perhaps looking at it now I have it a bit!!!!!

OCD and its severity can be diagnosed by taking the YBOCS or the DOCS assessment given by a therapist. Keep in mind that most therapists aren’t familiar enough with OCD to treat it or understand the results of the assessment. If the YBOCS or DOCS shows OCD you can find an OCD specialist by using the provider directory at iocdf.org. Just click on Find Help on their site.
