I am a Christian by the way, Hi, I was wondering can OCD cause unwanted feelings? so I don't want them but I was talking to my atheist birth brother and he said he read satanic/magic books and when I tried finding passion for God I started feeling things for the satanic/magic books instead even though I've never read them, and also I get unwanted thoughts about worshipping sports/trophies and things and I suddenly start feeling things about that like the satanic/magic books and I am scared I have have to drop stop talking to my brother and stop watching sports or I will go to hell, and I also get intrusive blasphemous thoughts daily and some reason watching sports whenever a big play happens it triggers thoughts like thank you satan whenever a big play happens
OCD unwanted feelings,: I am a Christian by... - My OCD Community
OCD unwanted feelings,
I am a Christian also and have struggled with that in the past. Remember OCD attacks what is most important to you! OCD twists reality. If OCD is attacking your faith then remember that’s what is important to you. Also I’m praying for your brother
It's definitely OCD. So when those thoughts occur just remember it's just OCD noise. The reason why it causes so much anxiety IS because you care about your faith so much. God would not hold you responsible for random thoughts that are out of your control. So let the thoughts pass and don't fight them. Brains are messy places, so much random junk. We just notice the junk more, but everyone's brain is pretty much the same.
I had intrusive blasphemous thoughts in the past. My mistake first was to consciously try to get rid of them because I felt guilty about them. It only made them worse. When I took some distance from them, said to myself "they're only meaningless thoughts" and focused on my daily activities, they eventually left. If you feel attracted to satanic books and it's against your values, don't fight directly your attraction. That would be giving it an attention it doesn't deserve. You would be tempted to reason in the following manner: "if despite all my efforts, my attraction to satanic books doesn't go away, it must mean that it's deep-seated". That ego-dystonic attraction has to spontaneously go away. For that to happen, you need to have some trust in yourself (and in God if you're a Christian), set goals for yourself and invest time and energy n their pursuit. If morale is good, irrational thoughts become naturally less invasive.
Just continue to have faith in the Lord 🙏
