It’s time for Taboo Tuesday! I am Krista Reed OCD specialist in Wichita, KS and IOCDF advocate here to give you taboo only topics!
It’s a new month and a new theme: Intrusive Attractions- the fear of becoming attracted to someone or something you really do not desire.
Remember- obsessions are unwanted, they don’t make sense to the person having these thoughts, urges or images.
Examples of these intrusive attractions might be:What if I become attracted to my parent? Did I just have a groinial response when I thought of my sibling? What if I accidently have a thought of having sex with mu pet? I just saw my child’s genitalia, does that mean I desire my child in a sexual manner?Or what I am aroused around inanimate objects?
Not only are these incredibly taboo, but they are also often diagnosed as “philias” (fondness/desire/extreme love) for something or someone such as pedophilia, zoophilia or objectophilia. Which furthers someone from getting the help they deserve and creates even more stigma for OCD.
Check out next week’s taboo Tuesday as I discuss compulsions these individuals might have.
Remember- Stigma and shame die where communication and validation live ❤️
