Brain Spotting

I’ve been looking into different kinds of therapy for my son. Tourette’s, ocd, anxiety, and IED. I’ve read a lot of people with anxiety and PTSD have success with this type of approach. Wondering if anyone has tried it or knows of someone who has and what their experience was like

Sorry, which type of approach are you asking about? Can you provide a link?

What is IED?

How are the diagnoses affecting him currently? How are things going at school?

I looked up brainspotting. Sorry, I don't know anything about it.

IED is probably intermittent explosive disorder.

Thanks, makes sense, that can be a feature of Tourette.

1. Please bear with me while I start with information about Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy.

2. Per the American Psychological Association (APA), EMDR is “A structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy (Shapiro, 2001) was initially developed in 1987 for the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is guided by the Adaptive Information Processing model (Shapiro 2007). EMDR is an individual therapy typically delivered one to two times per week for a total of 6-12 sessions, although some people benefit from fewer sessions. Sessions can be conducted on consecutive days.” - apa.org/ptsd-guideline/trea...

3. The main APA website is: apa.org

4. After an extremely brief glance, it appears to me that David Grand (more below) put his own spin on EMDR and trademarked it with the name Brainspotting in 2003. David Grand has a masters in social work from a New York university. He also has a PhD which does not specify a field of study from a university in the Caribbean, which isn’t necessarily a bad think but is unusual. You can find information about brainspotting on his website: brainspotting.com

5. One article on Grand’s website talks about how both EMDR and Brainspotting are performed - brainspotting.com/wp-conten...
