Its time for Taboo Tuesday! I am Krista Reed OCD specialist in Wichita, KS and IOCDF advocate here to give you taboo only topics! This month’s theme is within the theme of Harm OCD: Fear of suicide and/or harm to self
Remember : obsessions are thoughts/urges/images that are ego dystonic, meaning they are outside of the person’s personality, and they are unwanted.Obsessions within this theme might pop up as an urge to drive your car off a bridge, images of drinking something poisonous, fear of accidently dying by suicide, what if I become depressed and want to kill myself, what if I lose control and die
It is important to note that Someone who has obsessions about ending their life doesn’t necessarily want to act on those thoughts. In fact, suicidal thoughts become an obsession because the person finds these thoughts so distressing, they can’t stop thinking about them.
It is possible for someone to have both suicidal ideations AND suicidal obsessions- so it is very important to be assessed properly by the OCD specialist who can assist with both
Check out next week’s Taboo Tuesday and learn about compulsions that are common with this them! Have a gorgeous Tuesday and remember- stigma and shame die where communication and validation live.
