hi there! i also take fluoxetine, although at a much lower dose. My psychiatrist told me that it takes 4-6 weeks for these kinds of medications to take effect. Although i’m not familiar with this combination, if you’ve just started it, it might take a few weeks to start taking effect as the medication accumulates in your body. if you’ve been taking it for a while and it hasn’t been helping, it might be time to consult with your doctor and try a new medication. i had to try two medications before fluoxetine. the other two i tried either gave me horrible physical side effects, or didn’t improve my mood. my doctor had me try fluoxetine because it was in a different “class” (i think that means it’s chemically different) than the other two. although i’ve only been taking it for about a month and i’m still working up to the full dose my doctor wants me to take, i’ve found that i’m not as nauseous as i was with the other meds, and i see small improvements in mood so far. you also might find another therapist helpful as well, if the one you are working with isn’t helping you all that much.

long story short, you should talk to your doctor if the medication and treatment approach isn’t working for you, so you can discuss other options that will. i hope you do find something that brings you relief.

Based on evidence in literature and anecdotal evidence, it takes 12 to 16 weeks for SSRI’s to have significant effect on OCD. A small part of the cause is because you must use near max doses of SSRI’s to affect OCD and therefore you must take some time to ramp up the dose. The majority of the cause is because the kind of thinking changes that must happen are different from those with other problems such as depression.

I am on this combo for last three months 30 mg fluoxetine and 5 mg Olanzapine. It worked really well for me.

It's hard to wake up early morning sometimes but overall it's manageable and this combo has really helped me in cutting down almost all compulsions.

I take 60mg fluoxetine and, like the other commenters have mentioned, took several weeks to get the full effect. Hang in there!

I took fluoxetine for about 3 months. I didn’t like it at all! I was at 60 mg and still felt horrible. No appetite and no relief from OCD. I’m now on 150 mg of Zoloft and have been for the last 6 months. Absolute life and game changer! They are my magic blue pills is what I call them haha. Are you doing ERP in conjunction with CBT?

Yes, as previously someone commented down below, how long have you been taking it? My own personal experience is i did not see much of an Improvement with Olanzapine but i was taking it with Anafranil which is a Unique drug for the treatment of O.C.D. Right now, im not on any meds but i was on Prosac after that for about 1 year. Prosac worked well for me just i felt less Mood Swings. More of a positive contentment when i was around other people and less anxiety/fear creeping up (like that fear you get in your stomach that wont go away) anyway, if its not working tell your Psychiatrist how you feel man and experiment with other stuff. I remember Paxil really not working for me. I was way to agitated and on-edge.
