Hello friends! My doctor has recommended NAC (N Acetylcysteine) as an addition to my current meds. It has already been helping me after 2 weeks, so I wanted to share this with you! Ask your doctor about it! A great natural approach to treating OCD!

I'm glad this is working for you. I tried it, and I felt like I was jumping out of my skin. I went off it, immediately.

What is it? Is it natural?

Yes! thorne.com/products/dp/cyst...

Be patient. IT takes time. I started with 1 capsule and have worked up to 2. Take on an empty stomach (2 hours after a meal or 1/2 hour before a meal)

I've been taking 3000mg (1000 x 3 times a day) on top of my other medications (SSRI, SNRI.) It helps me somewhat, but it's not a panacea. I don't think it has any potential harm, so it seems worth trying.

I am going to give it a try after I am stable on my SSRI. I know glutamate plays a role in OCD, so I am hopeful this can help. IOCDF talked about it and mentioned there are few side effects and it is worth a try. My psychiatrist agreed.

Would this help if taken on its own. I’m not in any meds ?

Yes. It doesn’t need to be taken with meds. Start with one and work up to 3 a day or ask a doctor for recommendation!

What side effects does it have? what if you tried to think back to a bad thought? what would it do? how would it react? is it a SSRI?

It is an amino acid, so it can used in conjunction with an SSRI. Also, it’s an antioxidant and is recommended for autoimmune disorders as well!

Since then, I’ve switched to lamictal which helps reduce glutamate in the brain which has been associate with lots or mental health issues.
