dear community,

I have a question related to OCD, obviously I am suffering since very long time ago.

do you think OCD is related to a rich countries? I wonder if a person who doesn't have any thing to eat will be busy checking the gas if it is closed or his door if it is locked...etc....

thank you all.

From what I know OCD affects people of every class equally. I know for myself, when I have been in times of great financial distress, or I have been very ill for example, my OCD hasn't receded in importance. On the contrary, sometimes my OCD has been amplified; when I am considering whether my obsession is realistic, my mind tells me not to take any risks because my life is so difficult already, that I couldn't take any more distress.

Hi I agree with OCD "telling us to not take the risk" and to continue with our own thoughts/feelings and rituals etc. If we took the risk we would find that it is all ok, and OCD would be banished and a distant memory. The hard work would then start to keep the banishment away and not let it feed back in. We need to keep trying to break the cycle.

Unfortunately I've had the experience of doctors not advising me thoroughly when I've had infections, which has led to both ongoing health problems and increased OCD. It becomes really hard to tell what the real dangers are, when I've had the experience of dismissing thoughts that I thought were OCD but turned out to be valid.

Sorry to hear what you are going through.

not to take risk is not willing to suffer for short period and long term relief and recovery. I am sur you know and heard that already. one thing that have been effective for me and sorry if I am may be escaping from the main topics, but facing the reality is helping a lot. but not just facing it on a superficial way. I do (when I found the courage) face it in more deeper way, say to my self that doing what OCD is telling you to do won't rescue you from this and that and up to me now if you want to do it technically do it but I know it will not change any thing...then my urge is calming down. regardless whether the obcession is valid or not. but OCD is fooling us and never believe what it says.

Hey Mlk307,

I think it's really natural to want to find a reason for our OCD.

As far as what the science indicates OCD is a Neurodevelopmental disorder. I haven't seen anything that would indicate it affects countries of a higher SES more or less.

From my experience, I grew up in poverty and my OCD was absolutely still present.

Here's a great breakdown of what OCD is and who it affects:

Have a great day,

Thank you Alexandra for the link. in fact knowing the origin does help a bit. my personal experienced is that my OCD got worst after moving out from Africa. and more and more since my peronnal quality of life have improved. I am not relating this problem directedly to this reason. but it has definitely something to do with it. what exactly ? not sure.
