What TV show/book/movie always makes you feel better?

Hey guys. I've been dealing with a bit more OCD thoughts/depression than I have in a few months and I thought instead of focusing on these negative feelings I might talk to you guys and ask about your favorite things to watch/read when you feel down. For me, I pretty much go straight to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (hence my username). I've seen every episode tons of times and the familiarity and humor always makes me feel safe/better. I also like to watch movies like Pride and Prejudice. I love reading but I haven't read a lot since this semester started. What about you guys? Do you have a favorite thing to watch or read when you are feeling a bit down? I'd love to hear!

My husband has OCD, and I struggle with depression. We find a lot of comfort in Star Trek. Usually The Next Generation. The first few seasons, like any show, takes a minute to get really good. However, it is a show about the possibilities of a brighter future. Full of good morals and good feelings. Great for when you just want to zone out into a good feeling show.

Schitts Creek is also a great good feeling show that will make you laugh. I love to binge watch it when I’m down. It’s silly and light hearted.

I love Schitt's Creek, it's such a lighthearted and fun show. I haven't seen Star Trek but I might have to check it out!

I love Parks and Rec. I could seriously watch it on repeat all day when I'm feeling really down.

I have a few go-to books for when I want a lift. Pride and Prejudice as a book is great - and much better than any film of it! In fact anything by Jane Austen - sane, rational and funny - should make anyone feel better.

I'm currently re-reading (again!) Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome. It's a classic (first published 1889) and very funny - three men and a dog take a trip up the river. Doesn't sound exciting? I suppose it could be described as gentle farce. I first read it aged fourteen and have loved it since.

Another pick-me-up book is The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim. Again a funny book and a delight to read. Four miserable and lonely women get together to rent an Italian castle for the month of April, and as the flowers in the castle gardens unfold, so do they, and as does the reader. Quite a light read, but full of joy with a little sharpness.

My choices above are all rather 'English' - I shall try to call to mind a few American ones!

I think reading/films/box sets are excellent therapy. Maybe put them on prescription!

Asked by his biographer what Nero Wolfe was doing now, Rex Stout replied: reading Jane Austin.

I love watching the Walton family episodes. They are so family oriented and funny it really take your mind of off your problems.

And apparently not nearly so goody-goody as they were made out to be. Certainly not off set!

Friends and Schitts Creek both take my mind off of ruminating!

You should try Curb Your Enthusiasm and The IT Crowd.

Okay, so maybe this is just too, too. But: Monk. I know every episode, but I don't get tired of them. Even the theme song is a joy. (Not including the song that concludes the series. I can't get through that without crying -- thanks a lot Randy.)

My favorite feel good film is The Americanization of Emily. Written by Paddy Chayefsky, who's as good as it gets. Good writing and a terrific story. I watched that a few 🙄 times too.

That's a film I don't know, so I googled it. Sounds really great and I shall check it out.

Shall do!

The A Team. Was my favourite show growing up, and still have all the episodes on box set. Hannibal was always my favourite character. "I love it when a plan comes together"

Love the film Arthur staring Dudley Moore. Classic 80s film. Funny from start to finish😀

Watch toc toc , a spanish movie which approach ocd in such a funny way. When feeling anxious I watch and feel so much better as I understand my condition in a more loving way.
