Hi everyone. I’m new. Does anyone have any thoughts about medication for OCD-related involuntary tightening of hand muscles? I’m in a lot of pain from it. Thank u.

Dear Handman, I think you're already off to a good start by recognizing that you have this involuntary muscle tightening. If you can try to bring it into your awareness that will help. Try to notice when your hands tighten up and then find something you can do to counter it, like stretch or shake out your hands and arms and take some deep breaths. Try to notice WHEN this happens, like if it's on the bus or if you have to make a stressful phone call or if it happens when you're running late. Then you can sort of mentally prepare for it. I would also try yoga, stretching, mindfulness, or relaxation classes--you can do them online through an app if you can't go in person--and try ibuprofen, tylenol, heat or cold (whichever feels better) for the pain. Tiger Balm or Salonpas patches might also feel good. And once this pandemic is under control, definitely get a massage. That will help your body release lots of tension & pain.
