Depakote

Is anyone on here who has been or currently on depakote and has trouble sleeping? I've been tossing and turning at night. Is it known to cause sleeping problems?

Hi MrsMapdog-- I sympathize with the tossing and turning. Many people I know (including me) are having trouble sleeping right now. It's a very stressful time. For me, there's also the being home and drinking more coffee than usual and getting less exercise and activity than usual. Insomnia doesn't seem to be a common side-effect of Depakote and if you've been on it for a while and the insomnia has recently started up, I think it's unlikely that it's the medication. But I would certainly let your prescriber know. What's helped for me is keeping a book by the side of the bed; when I wake up I turn on the light and start reading until I fall back to sleep. I also sleep better when the room is a little cold. Hang in there! It's a tough time.

Thank you for replying. I'm postmenopausal and don't know if it's just that. It may not be the depakote. I've been on it a year at the end of this month
