Clonazapem substitute

Hello...the only relief I get from my OCD is when I take clonazapam which as we know you cannot take everyday. It really settles my thoughts and allows some ‘normalcy’ to my life. I am working with my dr to find a suitable either anti psychotic or mood stabilizer that will do the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions as to what has helped them. Thank you!

WOW I have taken ativan 'lorazepam since 1983. Very similar benzodiazepines. I lost my liscence twice and totaled five vehicles until I realized that I couldn't take it anymore. It is without a doubt the only relief I have ever received. From the time I awake until I go to bed my mind repeats every word' letters and numbers 40 to 50 times then they start over again and again. I also can't stop counting numbers adding and subtracting and reciting the alphabet. I am very orderly and have excessive concern for my family safety. I recently started back on ativan whereas my lovely wife princess monitors and dispenses to me. This works for me and my family 'I hope that you find relief. Caution benzodiazepines are very addictive and if you take too many you just may wake up dead!

So do you still take it? If so, how much do you take?

in reply to

Absolutely I have been down this road ' only I never operate a vehicle and I now have a lovely wife princess who works with me to identify triggers and keeps track of the medication ' because once you've taken it you forget and you think that you need more. My doctor dose me 2 to 3 mg a day. Please be careful when considering this med with your doctor. I believe that you should contact miss Sallyskins 'she is awesome.

Well if I don’t take it, I am afraid of what I could do to myself.

I was once a successful professional. Trauma destroyed me.

Same story that I have lived. As dangerous as it can be it is the only relief that I recieve. Usually works in 15 minutes. Very effective. I have been prescribed over 46 medications during the course of my illness . I am not giving up. Got it dude.

It is total relief for me also. I am not giving up either but I am sure getting sick of living like this. I am 61and had just retired when this all happened. Was not exactly the way I hoped to spend my retirement. My dr will not keep prescribing them to me due to their addictive nature.

I am with you on that. Being 58 I am also disgusted with the health care system. My doctor tried to run that by me but I halted him at the pass and discussed our options with my lovely wife. I am medecine intolerant now is what they say. I have a right to be involved in my treatment plan with the doctor. To be unbiased and willing to investigate different approaches as well as tried and true past medicine. Maybe because this recently happened your doctor is being cautious. Hang in there and keep fighting for your rights. Johnny

So am I understanding you correctly that you take clonazapem every day.

I am sorry to confuse you 'so many meds. I have to take ativan (lorazepam). Clonazepam or I think that it's called klonopin ' didn't have an effect on me. There are many benzodiazepines for your doctor and you to consider. It usually takes a while to find an effective one for your system. To reiterate I currently take ( lorazepam) up to 3 mg per day. Johnny

Your dr is obviously ok with your taking that every day? My dr told me that they are very addictive and doesn’t want me taking them every day.

As I explained in my first post to you 'this medication is considered extremely dangerous but effective. I am continously monitored by my doctor ' I am only dispensed the medicine from my wife who monitors my behavior and only administers what I need. I never drive. I try to use I statements because every one of us is different and we all respond to the treatment plans differently. I only know what works for me best. Hope that you road to recovery is speedy.

Thank you. I guess I didn’t read your first post closely enough.
