what a shite journey this is!

husband is 52, I’m 50.

Just got married.

Hoists being installed. I mean, what the hell. Things are so so tough. Trying our hardest to enjoy every day, to get out and enjoy but gosh it’s tough!

Hello Kaye,

You're right and it's out of our control.

My wife has had MSA for some time now and a consultant said to us " What cannot be cured must be endured "

He was right and we all just do the best we can, you have each other and you can only do your best.

My wife has no mobility at all and needs help with everything. It's not the retirement we had planned and there are many things we cannot do now but we make the most of what we can do.

No alternative really !!

Keep smiling when you can and take care.

Derek

Yes, it's a difficult road for both caregiver and msa sufferer. Life moves on around us, friends we once enjoyed slowly disappear and our world shrinks to home care and doctor appointments. The medical professionals are knowledgeable and try their best but, like everyone else, they don't have enough time to listen to our day-to-day struggles so we limit our visits knowing that there isn't much that can be done.

My husband is 79 and I am 67. We've enjoyed a long, happy and mostly healthy life together so accepting our fate is easier. I can only imagine what it must be like for couples in their 50s and 60s with so much life ahead and dreams of spending their well-earned retirement years together. And, in your case, just starting out your life as husband and wife. I'm so sorry.

I hope you have people who will listen to you, allow you to vent without judgment and offer you breaks so you can take care of yourself. You are not alone but I know it often feels that way. Take good care, Ruffner
