Well the cardiovascular system is under autonomic control so as MSA progresses we expect it to affect the heart to a geater degree in some people. Many of us already have a significant blood pressure problem , its a classic MSA symptom.
I've had a NHS 24hr BP monitor and I do home BP testing. Supine (lying down flat) can increase BP(sys) by 40. moving from sitting at a table to standing up can decrease by 20 or more. As expected with MSA but so far nobody has suggested heart tests.
Have they told you what type of heart irregularity you have ?

Hi
As Rev says your heart is controlled by your automnic system which can be affected by MSA.
My Sue has had an SVT which is a racing heart rate and is now controlled with a tablet.
Irregular heart be rates do naturally occur anyway as my father had one, leave it to the professionals to work out what to do.

Hi,
I developed bradycardia about 3 years ago which seemed to trigger atrial fibrillation and also tachycardia. I've been on drugs to help control it for a couple of years but this just made the bradycardia worse. One of the symptoms was that my heart rate was not responding to activity so trying to be active with a heart rate of 38 bpm added to orthostatic hypotension made things very difficult. I was told by my neurologist that bradycardia can be caused by MSA and as the cardiologist had suggested a pacemaker this may help.
They implanted a pacemaker a month ago to stop the bradycardia and it also has an activity monitor which increases the heart rate appropriately, this has made a difference and a bonus is I think my hands and feet are a little less cold.

as a general principle in medicine you should treat the cause. not the symptoms. NOT withMSA. Any symptom you can treat helps make life more livable
