I have now been taking Hydroxycarbamide for 2 weeks. Had flu like symptoms for a short while. However I have noticed that something has changed in my voice. I am talking quite normal at times and then the power/volume goes. anyone else had this happen to them

When i was put on hydroxycarbamide i got a small card stating that if you suffer any flu like symptoms or chills to get back in touch with consultant or gp i would get in touch with either one of those to put your mind at rest

Thanks Nicki2.

I am aware of what you are saying. I have already discussed my voice loss with my consultant and we could find no evidence of this being an issue that has been documented. The flu like symptoms are a usual reaction when first started on this treatment and, as in my case settle after a few days. It is only the voice issue that I am seeking information on.

Hello AIROW,

I find your question very interesting - My other half has only just been diagnosed with ET and started Hydroxycarbamide on Wednesday, his second tablet was taken yesterday (Friday) and when I got home from work he had a croaky voice and I asked him if he had got a sore throat which he said he hadn't and his voice is fine again today! I will be keeping an eye on this now to see if it happens again the next time he takes it, which won't be until Monday now. How often are you taking them?

Hi Reflex4.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I was taking Hydroxycarbamide daily up until Monday of last week 22/4/13. When I developed a reaction ? to this treatment. I am back at the clinic for a further review tomorrow and will see where I go treatment wise from there. I had been doing (I thought) very well up until then, I had been taking the medication for exactly 3 weeks.

I'll update when I know more.
