COVID and Flu vaccine - ET JAK2

Morning everyone,Just to say I went along for my COVID and Flu vaccine on Thursday. I have had a reaction over the last 24 hours of feeling like I had flu: headache, aching joints, a bit feverish. I feel better this morning but I often have a reaction to the COVID vaccine. In future I think I will not have both together. Has anyone else had this?

Hope everyone is well and thank you for all your support.

I reacted badly when i combined the flu and pneumonia vaccines. It felt like I had a bad case of the flu and both arms hurt significantly, a very unusual reaction for me. I will no longer combine vaccines. I space them out at least two weeks.

I think you are exactly right and it is sound advice, I just wish the NHS had suggested it. Hope you and your family are doing ok.

That true.

My doc also refuse to vax flu and pneumonia in same time.

He advice for 8 weeks between both and there is no need for MRNA covid vax anymore.

Cheers

I was advised by hematologist to not get flu and Covid together as had done in previous years. She said only get one vaccine at a time and spread two weeks apart. I have had flu and first of shingles vaccines so far. Both resulted in very sore, red and swollen areas at injection site for about a week after but no worse side effects. Covid not scheduled yet. Stay safe.

Thank you, I think in future I will take the vaccines separately to be on the safe side as I felt quite poorly. It might not make any difference though but it's got to be worth a try. Look after yourself too.

I had them both together - and aside from a sore arm - no reaction at all. Have ET and AF so was worried it could be hideous - but I have to travel, and with the new variants - I took a chance. So sorry you had a bad reaction.

I realised that the GP surgery planned to give me both flu and Covid vaccinations together, but I knew I'd seen posts on this forum recommending spacing them out. I rang my haematology nurse, who said I should definitely leave 2-3 weeks between the two jabs, to give my body time to recover from one before having the other. I'm so sorry to hear that you're suffering as a result of the double vaccination. It's really worth checking with your haematology team before any vaccination. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much for your reply. I feel fine now but I think the reaction definitely lasted 2 -3 days. I saw my consultant yesterday and I asked him for his opinion regarding spacing out the jabs. He said it was up to me but I think, as I can space them out, I will. Thank you again for replying and stay well.

Sounds like fairly standard vaccine response. One just never quite knows. I had mine both together and similar but expected response.

I have had this response before, right at the start of the vaccination programme and luckily I only felt unwell for about 24 hours. I think I will space out the vaccines in future, just to be on the safe side. Thanks for your reply, take care.

As other people have already mentioned, some of us were told we cannot receive two vaccines at a time. That we need to space them, depending on the vaccine. Usually 2 weeks between flu and Covid-19 vaccine, and sometimes more between other vaccines.

One of the reasons is that vaccines work via stimulating our immune system and part of that is temporary inflammation. And in MPNs we already have more inflammation than people who do not have MPNs, so two vaccines at a time might increase the amount of inflammation significantly in us and this can result in people feeling quite unwell.

I hope you recover well.

Thank you for this detailed reply. I was poorly for 24 hours and then felt a bit off for a couple of days. I happened to have my regular Haematology appointment yesterday and my blood results were all fine, thank goodness. I asked my consultant about spacing out the jabs and he said it was up to me really. I think in future though I will take everyone's advice and leave a few weeks between jabs to be on the safe side. Thanks so much for your advice and I hope you stay well.

I had mine together also and I too had a significant reaction that night. I had had a headache before but never the chills and fever for several hours. Thankfully it was over the next day and served to remind me why I get the vaccines! I don’t want the illnesses!

Indeed so, I was only poorly for about 24 hours but I think I will space out the jabs in future. Thank you for your reply, take care.

Oh dear, well I think next time I will space out the jabs and be prepared for the next 24 hours to feel rough and have a day in pyjamas. Hope you stay well and thank you for your reply.
