Chest X-ray (lungs) ?

I am experiencing some discomfort when I breath. I now remember being sent for a chest x-ray when I was diagnosed and was told it was to look at my lungs. Does anyone know why this may have been done?

I had a chest x-ray when diagnosed with ET. The reason for this is that elevated platelet levels could be caused by some cancers. I would suggest you see your GP asap to rule out an infection etc and take it from there.

Dear StreetPastor, as Tarifa says above, one reason for having a chest x-ray is to exclude another cause of high platelets. However, I have taken some advice from Prof Harrison and she has said you need to seek urgent medical advice to exclude a blood clot or infection, though the pain could be due to a muscle strain, but you must seek medical advice immediately. We don't wish to scare you, we are just concerned for you. I do hope you are ok and that it turns out to be nothing to worry about. Maz.

Thanks, I did go to the Doctors but I have so many other pains she didn't really focus on my chest. Just wanted to make sure I kept taking my tablets As I had to miss a day cause it hurt my chest so much. Will go back again. Such a comfort to have people in the know at the end of my keyboard x

Well I went back to the Doctors, it was so nice to be able to make reference to your reply Maz as I was listened to and checked over really well. It turns out that costochondritis has flared up again. This was first spotted in 2008 & I have to be honest I thought it was an incorrect diagnosis having E.T more recently. Still in pain, but major peace of mind! Thanks all Xx

Hi StreetPastor, so glad that you were listened to by your doctor and that you were checked over thoroughly. Also very glad to hear that it isn't a clot, but it's not very nice for you being in so much pain with the costochondritis, I hope it clears up soon for you. Maz x x
