anyone had a hip replacyment with one kidney and polycythanemia

I've never had a hip replacement....and haven't got one kidney...but I have PV and have had major gynae surgery whilst being treated with peg interferon. I do know that the kidneys can be affected initially post op for some people.
It would be important for the orthopaedic surgeon to liaise with your haematologist /kidney specialist prior to this, so that you are are able to make an informed decision regarding having the op. It would also depend on how well your PV is being controlled .
Good luck moving forward.

thank u for replying back forgot to mention I had kidney removed due to kidney cancer only found it when I was in a car accident
As stated before, make sure your orthopedic surgeon and MPN specialist/ hematologist are in direct contact with each. Are you on blood thinners? I have PV and am on blood thinners, as well. I underwent a hip replacement this past summer and blood clotting was an issue that caused a longer stay in the hospital. The most important part of any elective surgery is clear communication between all medical professionals involved as well as being your own patient advocate. My new hip is fine now. Good luck!!
hello. I have PV and had a hip replacement 3 years ago and have not experienced any issues. However I still have both kidneys. I hope that helps.
I have Polycythemia Vera (3 yrs), recently had a hip replacement. I had excessive bleeding and needed a transfusion, but fortunately, no kidney problems. Became very anemic. Needed multiple iron IV infusions. Took about 10 months to get the iron level up some.
Everyone's story will be a little different considering health level going in and any or no complications during or afterwards. I agree with the other posters. Be sure your surgeon and hematologist working with your surgeon are aware of your situation.
Good luck to you.
Sorry about the health challenges being thrown your way. I have PV and I've been on HU for 3 years plus a daily aspirin. I had a knee replacement 3 years ago and my surgeon was in contact with my hematologist and actually postponed my surgery until my platelets came down to a level he was satisfied with. Obviously they stopped the aspirin 1 week prior to the surgery. Also, given the PV they kept me overnight in the hospital to make sure all was stable.
Otherwise all went well. Good luck with your surgery.
thank u I am really worried with the risk of blood clots and my one kidney function is 50 but surgeon said it could drop with the surgery and he said the longer I’m on strong painkillers after surgery it is another risk with just having one kidney but sometimes u just have to put ur trust in the profecinals and hope everything works out thank you
