Feeling hot
While not common, hydroxyurea can cause your skin to feel hot. HU can affect the skin in a number of ways that may produce this sensation. It is certainly possible that a combination of drugs could increase the likelihood of this kind of skin sensation. Depending on what is going on, there may be ways to mitigate this sensation including moisturizing, avoiding sun exposure, and cool compresses. Suggest that further consultation is on order if the symptom persists. Monitor for the known skin reactions like dryness, scaling, erythema, etc. Being specific about what you are experiencing will help to get to the bottom of it.
Do you notice any difference when you eat more food high in sugar ?
I feel like my feet and hands are red hot most of the time lately.
I find it difficult to regulate my body temperature since starting on hydroxycarbamide 13 years ago. I have frequent hot flushes and night sweats 🥵
Hi Frangie, yes periodically I get burning hands ( a bit like sun burn) and occasionally hot sensations on my feet. It doesn't last for long though. Also get hot flushes, night sweats, but that could be the hydroxy/ menopause? 🤷♀️ .
I hope that helps .
Oh yes, hot and other times so cold like my blood has turned to ice. I’ve been on hydroxy for over 3 years now. When I started the hot flushed were so bad that I practically pleaded to go back on HRT. I had been on HRT for many years before but doc stopped it saying I didn’t need it…I am 80 years old! But a nice cancer nurse wrote to my GP and I was put back on a low dosage of oestrogen patch. Bingo! Those horrid hot flushes stopped practically overnight. I do still get hot but nothing like before..and still get so cold! But that hydroxy lowered my platelets, so thank god for that. I don’t see many men with that side effect , so maybe it affects women more..? So you see dear Frangi63, you are not alone. Good luck!
You are not alone. Cancer & treatment can cause sudden onset of menopause not gradually just everything all at once. ET symptoms can also be mistaken for menopause. Lots of men also suffer the hot flushes etc.
Yes! I feel like I'm burning up inside but no temperature. I am always asking everyone ' is it hot in here' whilst I'm sweating everyone else is fine.
Yes, I have felt hot , and especially at night, sometimes night sweats… Ii have had burning sensation in my feet also. I drink plenty of water .. I would definitely think its a side effect of Hydroxycarbamide.
I've been on Hydroxyurea since 2019. I sometimes feel 'hot flashes'/feverish, as others are describing. It's not menopause, which I'm already past by quite a few years, so I've been wondering too whether it's the medication.
