Spa Treatments

Just home from a spa break with my best friend. After completing the questionnaire 10mins before my treatment and honestly completing the form..... ticking that I had blood cancer and took EPO injections and Asprin I was told I could not have ANY treatments without a doctor's letter. I was totally gutted but at least my friend managed to get my treatment before her own. It never occurred to any of the two of us that this would have been the case. Just to let anyone who was considering a massage in the future this may be the case at their chosen hotel.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear your break didn't go as planned, and I hope you still had an enjoyable and relaxing weekend?

I read something years ago about not getting massages with PV unless it was with someone who specialises in cancer massage but I can't remember the reason for the risk.

That must have been disappointing for you. Thanks for posting to highlight it for us.

Thank you for your reply. We still managed to have a lovely few days. Will simply forget to tick the cancer box in the future as Haematology Dept say it’s fine.

Yes as soon as you say you have cancer they panic. I have ET and my usual masseur did notice that i was bruising more than usual when i had a massage just after diagnosis. Hadnt even thought to tell her. My consultant said it was fine to have massages but didnt give me a letter. I havent had any more since but i would have been tempted not to say anything on my spa trip. 😏

Yes, that’s exactly what my Haematology Dept said too. I’ve decided to say nothing in the future at any Spa Days🤔

hi tartanlady

I had the same experience and spoke to my healthcare team afterwards who told me it’s ok to have massages. I suggest you speak to your care team and ask them (as everyone is different) I now don’t mention it on those forms.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I emailed my Haematology Dept yesterday and they said exactly the same. It’s ok to have a massage and no letter needed. Think I’ll also forget to mention it 🤔

Hi sorry about your bad experience. However as I know it is ok but still check with your team. Spa's refuse this due to their insurances that don't cover treating people with cancer and that is all to it. I go and have massages and actually it is very goo for us. Wishing you well.
