I’ve not heard that myself from a CALR ET on HU for 3 years perspective. I’d ask my eye doctor if it could be a micro vascular issue. If you haven’t been to see him I’d go ASAP.

I’m under a neuro ophthalmologist who pointed out that HU can be causing my peripheral vision problem

That is not an issue with HU that I am aware of; however, there can be uncommon adverse effects with any medication. Since you are seeing a neuro-ophthalmologist, that is likely your best source of information. Presumably, they has already checked your retina for any of the microvascular issues that are associated with MPNs.

If the feedback from your vision care team is that HU may be the problem, then it would be advisable to seek alternative treatment for the MPN.

Please let us know what you learn and how you get on.

I had regular recurring problems with my peripheral vision which actually resulted in my eventual diagnoses with ET when one of the episodes ended in a minor stroke.

It appears that the issues I had been having with my vision throughout my life up to diagnoses were at times when my platelets may have been spiking and could have been causing clots that were passing through the smaller blood vessels in and around my eyes.

Since being on HU and regulating my platelet levels I have had no issues with my vision. That’s not to say that it’s not a side effect of HU you are experiencing but it may be helpful to check in with your MPN healthcare team for a check on your platelet levels?
