Hi all,I have been on peg interferon for 10 weeks.
Platlets decreased fast from 1713 to 1405 after 2 weeks on 45mg, then to 898 after 2 weeks at 90mg, then after 2 weeks at 135mg they came down to 689 all bloods fine,I have been on 135mg since and I did a blood test last week because I have to see my consultant next week and wanted recent bloods done.
Just to say I have had little or no side effects while on peg.
After recent bloods My platelets were 560 but the nurse told me my blood sugars we're high, just trying to figure out if (peg) can cause high blood sugars.
The other thing is I was just back from 2 week holiday where I may have indulged in all things nice..
Could that have something to do with it?
Thanks for you help

The short answer is that Pegasys can elevate glucose levels but so can other things, including indulging in all things nice. Suggest talking to your MPN care Team, who will likely recommend monitoring and perhaps decreasing various enjoyable treats.
can update from being on slower path peginterferon for over a year and getting weekly blood tests (because of anemia and side effects of inherited thalassemia) that such long term use has not altered my glucose level in any way. It has greatly reduced my sense of taste and interest in food, however, few things I can taste include dark chocolate, chocolate chip cookies, and BBQ sauce so I have them regularly but not before getting a blood draw. I did not have any glucose or taste issues pre MPN two years ago. So as usual, we all react differently and look for trends. Glucose can change for a number of reasons. Your care team needs to be engaged to confirm why yours has changed. Stay safe!
Hi. Thanks for your reply,I think you are right these drugs work in different ways for everyone I might get away without any noticeable side effects but a change in my blood hopefully a temporary change.
And your bloods are all in order but unfortunately it's effected you in other ways.
The thing is we need them and we will have to take the good with the bad I suppose.
Anyway I will keep you posted about where things are at in a bit.
