sunscreen recommendations

I have ET and am on hydroxycarbamide. I have rosacea and I am having difficulty with sun creams on my face I seem always to get a reaction in one area. My makeup is Clinique with factor 50 in it but don’t like wearing makeup all the time. I have tried Clinique sunscreen on my face but it doesn’t agree with my skin. Only cream I can use is E45. The rest of my body is okay with any sunscreen just my face. Anyone else with this problem. At the moment I will try anything . This is my first summer with ET. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Roche Posay do a number of formulations according to skin type. I’ve moved on to CeraVe which has a factor 50 moisturiser / sunscreen. I use it over usual moisturiser etc. Good luck!

have you tried Tropic factor 50 or BodyShop factor 50 sun creams (specifically for face) I think tropic even has one for sensitive skin. Might be worth a try….

I find that Nivea Sun UV Face Sensitive is good. It’s fragrance free and factor 50. It says it prevents skin irritation on the packaging. Good luck!

Hi, I had Rosacea recently diagnosed. Ambre Solaire Hydra protect factor 50 hasn't caused any reaction (so far). Good luck with finding a sun screen that works for you.

After years of using chemical sunblock, in my first ET + HU summer I switched to a mineral sunblock. So far my favorite is Aveeno Baby SPF 50.

There is a reason they make all baby and kid's sunblock products with minerals, not chemicals. The way the chemical ones work does not seem good to a skin that is already sensitive due to the chemicals in our medications.

At least this is my conclusion after some reading. Otherwise, so far I do not sense any difference.

I would be glad to hear your opinion or experience.

Stay positive and healthy!

La Roche Posay and cerave are great. Same people make both. But if you are looking for something a little better Elta MD is awesome. It is in the $40 price range, but would just use for face. It comes tinted or plain. Tinted is always better but it makes me look a little orange so will depend on your skin color. Or you could go a range above and get skinbetter. It is by far my favorite and they even make a compact that you can apply. I love it!!!! But it is very pricey. Like $75-100. I use it because I get a discount at my office, but if you are using it for your face may be worth the investment. Hope this helps!

I agree. I have PV, rosacea, and very sensitive fair skin. I take HU so sunscreen is a necessity. I have found the EltaMD to be worth every penny. I use it as my daytime moisturizer with no irritation. It is light and comfortable on my skin. I highly recommend it.

Hi Maxpenny, I too have Rosacea and have been wearing EltaMD UV broad spectrum SPF46, Tinted Face Sunscreen for over 15 years. Absolutely love the sunscreen because it acts as a face lotion as well and it says on the bottle that is calms/protects skin prone to acne and Rosacea!! I wear it in both Alaska and Arizona daily. Highly recommend. Kerry

Try the liquid 50+ La Roche Posay, otherwise the 50+ from the korean brand "centella" is really good too. Its worth noting that you would have to use a LOT of the clinique foundation to get 50+ SPF, and you are probably getting barely, if any, sun protection from it. For this reason, its best to always wear sunscreen under makeup, even if it says "SPF."

Hopefully one of these works for you :)

Thanks I have tried la Roche porsay but did not agree with me! A few of the others recommended too, managed to get E 45 with 50+ SPF so far so good but will try and get the Korean brand. Thanks very much for your reply. 😎
