Hi, I am travelling to London for some work and plan to see any good Haematologist for ET. I am male, 36 years of age and its been 2 years since diagnosed with ET. Would like to have any recommendations on good haematologist (private practices) for ET in London. I want 2nd opinion on starting Interferon for short period to get a break from Hydrea to plan family.

I think Clare Harrison at Guys is the main person!

Hi. Don’t think Claire Harrison is private practice. But she is well known for being an expert in this field

Any other recommendations? Since I am not UK citizen, I don’t think I can get appointment?

The person to see is indeed Professor Claire Harrison at Guy’s Hospital. She leads an internationally recognised MPN team. But she does not have a private practice. The problem is that there are very few MPN specialists generally.

I suggest you email Prof Harrison, explain your situation and ask how / who you might see for a second opinion.

If you want a second opinion there is only really any point in getting it from an expert in the field.

Wishing you all the best.

Hi, do you have her contact details and email Address? Very limited information is available online. Really appreciate your help. Thanks

So if it’s possible Google, Professor Claire Harrison, Guys and St Thomas Hospital, London. The contact details on the hospital website are:

Secretary: Teresa Theuma

Secretary tel: 020 7188 2742 (need to add +44 and drop initial ‘0’)

There is no e-mail but a quick call may get you the appropriate one. Perhaps someone from MPN Voice might be able to post a more direct contact.

Sure, Thanks. I’ll send her the email for any possibility. Any idea about Dr. Micheal Portter? He has private clinic at Royal Marsden Hospital in Central London.

I’ve just looked up Dr Mike Potter (I’m assuming same guy). His interests are broader than MPNs and it seems he is mainly interested in paediatrics and young people But does see adults. I have no experience of him - maybe someone else here does. However he does have interests in haematological malignancies, myeloproliferative diseases etc. Royal Marsden is a very reputable specialist hospital.

Again worth a call / email to establish whether he could see you and / or contribute something useful. FYI private consultation here are around £200 / £250 - £350 plus any tests.

Hi, I am one of the lucky ones in that I am a patient of Claire Harrison. She runs a good team at Guys hospital as has already been mentioned. You can be referred to see a team member instead. Your case would still be discussed with Claire at their team meetings. Your local haematologist should be able to refer you, I was referred by my local haematologist who I still see for regular check ups, but any change in meds is authorised by the Guys team.

Here is a list of patient-recommended docs with MPN expertise. mpnforum.com/list-hem/ . I found my consulting hematologist from this list.

hope you can find someone who is available.

For a private consultation this might help: londonbridgehospital.com/LB...

This is a private hospital

Osidge gave a link to London Bridge Hospital. It’s a private hospital located right next to Guy’s Hospital (Guy’s and St Thomas’ are located on two separate sites about 15 minutes apart). A lot of the hospital’s consultants who offer private consultations do so at LBH for obvious reasons of convenience. I haven’t come across Dr Donal McClornan in the MPN department (not that that means much) but he may be specialising more in leukemias etc. However, again e-mail / call. It would certainly make sense to see someone working out of the same hospital and department at Prof Harrison.

I used to be seen at Hillingdon Hospital and I believe many of the excellent Haematology team have private practices at The London Clinic. There is Dr Jan-Mohammed ((may be retired now), Dr Kasmarski and Dr Patel.
