I have a frozen shoulder and have been offered a steroid injection. I am on Hydroxy and Aspirin.I am wondering if anyone else has had the injection and if they had any side effects. I am a little concerned that it's Kenalog, which I thought was banned in UK. Although I am desperate to get rid of the shoulder pain, I don't like the look of the listed side effects.
Steroid injection: I have a frozen shoulder and... - MPN Voice
Steroid injection
I had a partly frozen shoulder from my vaccine reaction. It was in the form of certain limited motions. I went to phys therapy and various pain meds early on, no difference. What fixed it near instantly was a skilled manipulative osteopath. There are not many Drs of this sort and it may not be what you need, but could be worth an inquiry.
It's a subset of osteopathy, this is an explanation of the specialty:
I have had steroid injections into my feet and ankles for osteoarthritis with no side effects
I have had steroid injections in my shoulder and hip and had no side effects but they didn't work for me. Hope yours are more successful. I had to stop my aspirin for a bit beforehand.
yes I have had 2 steroid injections on Hydroxy & interferon . Had no effect on platelets or anything to do with our MPN problems. However injections had no result either so I took advice & started weight training excercises on the injured arm & excercises. After 18 months it has improved considerably.
Unfortunately shoulders are complex & no quick fix whatsoever . Julia Exeter 👌
Hi,
Had samd problem - about 1 month ago! Severe pain due to frozen shoulder. I am on hydrea 1000mg pd. Had the injection (combined with pain reliever) with no side effects. Relief was within 24 hours.
I had issues with both shoulders due to sports injuries about 10 years ago. I was on hydroxyurea and aspirin and received injections of kenalog or depomedrol every 3 months for about 9 years with no bad effects. They provided good relief within a few days that lasted about 2 1/2 months. This past year I began doing water aerobics 4-5 times a week. After 3 months I noticed much less pain and more range of motion to the point where I cancelled my last two injections and am able to resume all normal activities. I will discuss this with my rheumatologist at my next visit but it seems the water put less stress on the joints while strengthening them. I recently had an ultrasound on my left shoulder because the rheumatologist wanted to see if the joint was bone on bone so the results will be interesting.
I had a frozen shoulder with pain. The steroid injection with kenalog gave me instant relief. No side effects. It took several more months (with PT/exercise) until the range of motion miraculously returned.
I feel for you! I had frozen shoulder a decade ago. The injection was a life saver! No side effects. If your frozen shoulder is not from an injury - i.e., just started randomly and progressively got worse, please be aware that it will likely come back in your other shoulder as well (never in the same shoulder from what I learned). Mine came back in the second shoulder about 18 months after the first resolved.
The first time, I didn't find a doctor who offered the steroid injection until at least 6 months after I first had symptoms. As I noted, the injection helped, but wish I could have had relief sooner. And all in I had pain/symptoms for 12+ months.
When it hit my second shoulder, I saw my doctor within the first couple weeks of the inevitable symptoms - and got an injection at that visit - well before I lost much functioning in the should (in the "freezing stage" vs. the "frozen stage"). Never had pain after that and was 100% back to normal within 6 months.
Hi there, I had a Kenalog 70mg (with Bupivacaine) injection a couple of weeks ago for a frozen shoulder. I have PV and take Hydroxy and Apririn. I had no adverse reactions at all and the pain in my shoulder has thankfully reduced. Best wishes with your treatment; a frozen shoulder is very painful.
