Hello again to all the people on this wonderful. group. Following post from 10 days ago, when I was taken off hydroxy due to anaemia, I had appt. today, & will be having another bone marrow check, & possibly blood transfusion shortly. Looks as though I,ll be going onto Analgride instead. Can I ask people please how they found this changeover? I have myelofibrosis. Thank you! X

Changing from hydroxy to Analgride
Anagrelide may help with the thrombocytosis without affecting RBCs. It is likely worth a try. Hopefully, momelotinib will become available for people with MF + anemia. Meanwhile transfusions are an option. There are additional options that are worth considering that you can discuss with your MPN care team.
This is a good presentation on this topic.

Thank you Hunter for your kind reply., & the presentation is very informative. Onwards & upwards!
I was taken off Hydroxy as could not tolerate it! Am now on Anagrelide t.g. all ok
I have E. T - Essential Thrombocythaemia-but is under control -
Hope you'll feel better soon.
I was on hydroxy for 3 years, then changed to Anagrelide. At first I had a few palpitations, but they faded. Otherwise ok, for several years. I was diagnosed with ET at the time, recently diagnosed with MF so now on peg interferon.
I was on Hydroxy plus aspirin, for 5 years but platelet numbers started creeping up so I started on Anagrelide plus 500mg of Hydroxy daily. Anagrelide didn't suit me at all. As well as heart palpitations I got swollen ankles and feet. Am now on Pegasys plus 500mg Hydroxy and the swelling vanished as soon as I stopped Anagrelide. But we all have different responses to different medication. Anagrelide works well for many people and may be right for you.
Hi, I recently switched over to Anagrelide, after 20 years on HU ( also for MF)… was very nervous, but have now been taking 2 tablets per day for 2 1/2 months…apart from a couple of moments of heart racing a bit fast in the first fortnight, it has been good, no other symptoms and haematologist is happy with my blood results. Good luck.
Early this year I tried to switch from Hydroxy to Anagrelide with no joy. Things were going well until the very last dose of the switch. Something attacked my respiratory system causing all sorts of problems requiring supplemental O2, a flurry of pulmonary and cardiac scans, and an immediate reversal of treatment from which I'm just beginning to recover. When I try to "walk", more like stagger, my O2 level rapidly falls into the low 80s/high 70s limiting my range to something like a quarter mile, but, thank God, slowly improving--not that long ago 3 or 4 miles were routine. That said, all the testing failed to identify a clear-cut villain, so I pass this along for what it's worth. It started as a dry cough that I wrote off as a side effect to be endured until my systems adjusted to Anagrelide. Male, ET, 10+ yrs, CALR, USA, 86.
