My husband took this picture from our backyard when it got close as I rushed home. There was quiet panic on our street at that time. One benefit I had was a full distraction from the Sjogren symptoms as I prepped the house.
We know people who lost their houses but the fire did not get nearer to us than seen here. We would have left in our micro RV. One big thing when evacuating is to take your meds along. Replacing Bes or Rux would likely get hassles of too early a refill. Rux esp cannot stop dosing suddenly. I keep my pill collection in one small long box.

We're not that organized, my box of pills is more to keep them from covering the whole countertop area. But I realized the extra benefit, and it's a good idea for anyone in a fire zone or other "minutes left" emergency.
So glad you both are safe. My niece lives in Woodland Hills with her husband and baby and they had to evacuate for a few days, but luckily their house was not affected and they are now back there. But it was an extremely stressful situation.
The whole world was watching. This “quiet panic” well described. I’m so glad you and your home remained safe, but I’m so sorry about your friends’ homes! Be well. Anag
Keep safe! What a mad situation, luck of the draw and you may be untouched or destroyed! We all feel for your communities and hope it will calm down very soon . Hopefully some wise measures for the future will be taken.
Agree on the wise. There needs to be stricter rules for neighborhoods, We don't really have adjacent neighbors but mine have lots of burnable stuff next to us.
We're glad your both okay. Our son and wife live and work in San Fran and he was keeping us up to speed as a friend lives your way.Earlier today he spoke of taking a rest from the inauguration and walking to the beach (about 6 miles) in shorts and t-shirt which is most unusual. He does miss the rain sometimes.
Bay area had the Tubbs fire to the north, also lost thousands of homes which were not even in hills. It's a worldwide problem with no instant solutions.
The local news has stories and instructions on accessing lost meds, but things like Rux and IFN likely are more complex. I know Incyte offers emergency pills when there is temporary trouble. I nearly had to use that service as I switched Medicare plans.
I am so glad you are ok! I can’t imagine how scary and terrible all of that is. Hopefully there will be some relief soon.❤️. We will be praying for you! Just so glad you were able to get out and are safe.
Glad that is as close as the fire got to you. Our house was one of 6 lost on our street. Total devastation started two streets north of us. We are lucky that we moved in 2023 and were renting the property. Fortunately all are accounted for on our street. One of our neighbors stayed behind and was able to save the house to the east of ours. Most of our closest friends have been spared to date, but my husband knows of about 40 people from work who lost their homes. This really brings home making sure you have a go bag, with backup medications if you can.
That is as real as it gets. Sympathies for the loss, even if it's your rental. Doing ok to find a new place?
From the local stories, staying greatly increases the odds of saving a house, and of dying. Like everything, a trade off. I installed a real 1" fire hose a few years ago, at least the FD could use it if we were away.
On the meds, one option is to keep them in a single box. I have that just to keep them contained but realized how useful it is. But IFN is more complicated.
Oh yeah, we moved many months ago and fortunately the tenants got out safely and our excellent management company found them a new place to move into in February. My husband has the same problem with medications - no back ups allowed.
Way too close for comfort!! My youngest son's boyfriend is from Encino area so we've all been following this fire very closely since it spread. I'm happy to hear you and your family are safe, and hope all the resources needed to rebuild flow into the area quickly and effortlessly.
