I have looked at gov.uk about this and at the CAB advice on filling in the form. It seems to be about whether you can look after your basic needs - cooking, dressing, washing etc and about mobility. I quickly realised that I wouldn't stand a chance of getting it in spite of fatigue following my SCT.

Unfortunately you have to be pre pension age for PIP otherwise it would be Attendance Allowance which is claimed by the person looking after your needs. And there's Pension Credit depending on ones circumstances.

However for anyone eligible to claim PIP I suggest joining an online site called Benefits and Work which provides excellent up to date guidance in an area of constantly shifting sand for less than £20.

Regards - Chris

Me again ! I checked and Attendance Allowance is actually paid to the person claiming because they need help from a carer. If this help exceeds 35 hours a week that person can claim Carers Allowance. Not sure about finer details ie if means tested.

I claim PIP - Daily Living, standard rate. CAB helped me to fill out the form and I provided evidence from my GP and Consultants. I then had to attend a face-to-face assessment. Mine was successful as I had a stroke in 2012 and the stroke has left me with a few medical issues - cognitive and motor (severe 'essential tremor'). I am still able to work but need special equipment and tools to be able to do so. As you are above state pension age you would need to apply for Attendance Allowance.

Hi! Attendance Allowance is what someone of your age should be claiming. It is not means tested. Look it up on the Uk government website. One can complete the form oneself, but before doing so seek advice from the Age Uk website and CAB website. You should fill it in by reference to your worst days. It’s not necessary to pay anyone to complete it on your behalf. Telephone the AA office for the form . This means that if the benefit is awarded it is backdated to the date of when you asked for it. One has 6 weeks to complete and return it. Ensure you include all relevant medical evidence., with copies. Photocopy the form first and Complete the form in draft first before completing the final form you intend to submit. Be as comprehensive as possible. Don’t exaggerate but don’t underestimate your condition. Since MPNs are not familiar to a caseworker, describe your illness in full and its future progression/transformation if indicated by your consultant. If AA is denied, you can appeal.

Hi, at one time I considered applying but after husband retired I knew I wouldn’t get it.

Tip- go to your age Uk office she was amazing when we applied for it for my mother.

You have to make an appointment.

I did meet someone at a forum who is if working g age and she got pips.

I applied for attendance allowance for my Dad (he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s) I think that is the benefit you would apply for.
