Hi, my latest blood results are showing a low level of vitamin B12 and vitamin D. I have PV and take hydroxycarbomide 500 and 1000 on alternate days. Platelets are fine but htc is 46.8. HTC has been above 45 for the last 3 months and have had 2 venesections. Is the low levels of vitamins to be expected or should I be getting supplements of both? Many thanks for your suggestions.
B12 deficiency : Hi, my latest blood results are... - MPN Voice
B12 deficiency
I also have PV with co-occurring deficiencies in Vit B/Folate, Vit D, and Magnesium despite a healthy diet. Note that I also have GERD and take Nexium, which interferes with nutrient absorption. I also have Neurofibromatosis Type 1, which has Vit D deficiency as a symptom.
Nutritional deieincis can have serious adverse effects and do need to be addressed. I consult with an Integrative Medicine doctor for this reason. I take supplements for each of the deficiencies. We titrated the doses of the supplements to match my needs based on measured response. I do also let my care team know about the supplements I am taking.
Suggest that you consult with a medical professional who is knowledgeable about nutritional needs and how to address them.
All the best.
My sister has a Phd in neuroscience/pharmacology . As soon as I was diagnosed, she set me up with a vitamin supplement plan which has been working very well. I have ET jak 2+.
Vitamin B12 5000 mcg daily , Folic Acid 1000 mcg daily, Biotin 5000 mcg daily, B1 100 mg daily, and a senior multi vitamin daily. I take these at bedtime with a small snack.
This regimen has done wonders since I stated HU 500mg daily with 81 mg aspirin. I feel very good now. It definitely is worth a try.
